People in the Rhondda have had no mail for two days because postal workers walked out

A part of the Valleys has had no mail for two days after postal workers walked out.

More than 30 staff walked out of the Ferndale sorting office on Tuesday due to a personnel issue.

The walkout affects homes between Ystrad and Blaencwm in the north of Rhondda Fawr and all of the Rhondda Fach.

Workers are reportedly planning to continue their walkout on Wednesday.

Royal Mail said they are "disappointed" over the action.

Rhondda AM and Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood said: “A number of people have contacted the office worried about urgent mail.

"We understand and support the collective action on the part of Royal Mail staff but urge senior management to deliver a speedy resolution to this dispute.

"In the meantime we have been advised that people with identification can call into the sorting office to collect any outstanding mail."

Royal Mail said they are working towards solving workers' concerns.

A spokeswoman said: "Royal Mail is disappointed that postal workers in Ferndale Delivery Office have taken unofficial industrial action today and yesterday.​

"We sincerely apologise to customers in the CF43 and CF44 postcode areas for any disruption to their mail services. We are doing all we can to minimise this disruption.

"Royal Mail is fully committed to the process to resolve concerns of postal workers based in the centre by following the national jointly agreed framework with the Communication Workers Union (CWU)."

The CWU were approached for comment.
