Pity we'd already had our break.

They cant do thisfb1969 wrote:Our place works the other way on this!
We are told that the lapsing takes priority and that it is supposed be done before we start our own delivery. This means that if you have to leave anything, you leave your own stuff on and not the lapsing. That of course means you get a double load on your own round the next day.

We used to have to do that with our previous DOM. Now we can choose to do it before or after.eastie wrote:They cant do thisfb1969 wrote:Our place works the other way on this!

That's ridiculous. There's something seriously wrong if you have time to do that much. My old duty had 20 houses, took less than ten minutes with about 5 minutes driving. My new duty has 60 houses, right next to my start point. Guess what. I haven't time to do that much so leave it. They've shot themselves in the foot. If it was easier I'd take it most days, but I haven't a hope in hell of getting finished on time with an extra 60 houses.postie15 wrote:have an extra 190 delivery points on the lapsed round

we have the same, but management has a good plan, everyone does lapsing first so if you bring anything back its from your regular walk so you think twice about cutting offOzzvaldo wrote:We've got 4 HCT deliveries with over 900 delivery points (one has over 1000) that take at least 4 hours each and are scheduled to take lapsing. The important point to remember is the lapsing is only meant to be taken if you have time to do it within your duty hours....and therein lies the crux of much of the bullying by management.postie15 wrote:Is there a maximum number of delivery points on a lapse duty? My round is an HCT round with 500 delivery points and takes 3 1/2 to 4 hours ive now been told that I have an extra 190 delivery points on the lapsed round is this right?

so much this ^^^^^^^^, people worried they might have 3-4 days worth of mail on Saturday - so what ? i guess youre finishing at your scheduled finish time that day too as a worse case scenario, hardly a big deal is it ?gunho wrote:I’ll say this only once. It is so simple. You have a start time and a finish time, end of story
Its not hard people, the faster you realise this, the EASIER your life will be.

no, still only think once about it, obvious trap, will still cut off, if the mail is still there tomorrow rinse and repeat unless theres enough time to complete.lightningpostman wrote:

Our section has been lapsing and the managers are out there doing the work - and I ask myself what is the logic in having managers if they are not actually managing? Clearly, it would be better for Royal Mail to get rid of its line managers that are on a salary and simply have more staff out there doing deliveries!!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

So, we're now being told that lapsing is to be given preferential treatment over our duty. That is to say, if we haven't got time to do both within our time, we are supposed to bring back a loop or whatever of our duty and not the lapsing.
This can't be right, can it? Sorry if this has been covered before but has anyone got any clarification on this?
I've read the above and the possible plan of making us think twice before cutting off, but just so wondered if there was a link to any agreement or something....for what that might be worth.

Might be worth getting the DOM to put that in writing, possibly signed by the DOM as well to cover your asscrimson king wrote:So, we're now being told that lapsing is to be given preferential treatment over our duty. think about it, whats the reason you object to this ? because itll be there the next day ? well guess what ? - you still have a finish time the next day too, you cant object to working your hours, at least i hope thats not what youre doing ?
The manager asking you to do lapsing first as far as i can tell IS a reasonable request, if it creates issues on your regular duty yes point that out, let him decide on course of action, again point out if what hes asking is achievable or not. If he then insists, you just do what is asked to best of your ability and follow the cut off procedure.
This stuff isnt hard, its making managers take the consequences for their decisions and not to try and fix things for them and get stressed about it.

Erm, no, I'm not objective to working my hours...where did you get that from in my original question? I know all about finishing times and cutting off procedures too, thanks.
Our duty is a long one, even on a quiet day we do well to finish on time. Nothing to do with procedure either, everyone who covers the duty finds the same. People hate going on it to cover one of us on holiday.
My original question stemmed from the fact that I was under the impression lapsing was a duty filler, not part of your duty and I was surprised to be told to bring bits of the duty back rather than lapsing.
Anyway, all a bit moot now as I saw the union rep, had a word and all sorted. So I know what's what on a local level anyway.
'Objecting to working your hours'....Sheesh, I'm still a bit miffed at that, but it's been another long, hot day and I'm probably taking it out of context and too personally.

sorry if you saw it as a personal attack, i just see it in my office (and sometimes on these boards) on a daily basis people not wanting to do "x" just because its something more than they normally do and it means theyll be finishing a little later than usual although still in their duty time.
