Prep rate

Perhaps I'm being harsh on the rep. He was not actively siding with the management, just agreeing there is a rate of 20 items per minute, but there was no fight. Think he was there as a tactic by manager to give the illusion of formality.
An example:
Postie has to sort his and partners duties. For the sake of simplicity, lets say both duties have exactly the same amount of mail.
Traffic states 200 items in wave two seq. + 200 items in manual for each duty= 400 items each, 800 in total.
800 items / 20 items p/m = 40 minutes.

I think it's a load of rubbish, and my argument to the posties were that they have high packet traffic duties and have to sort two duties worth, whereas others only have one duty, as well as mention above with getting specials, signing for keys etc, but our manager has a way of using numbers to bewilder the staff, knowing the majority of them are not going to question the numbers due to being poor at arithmetic.

When you put in a revision you have to agree the level of efficiency of the unit.
Without it there is no possible way of deciding how many full time or how many part time staff are needed.
So what you have is a resourcing standard.
If it was agreed that your resourcing standard was 20 items/minute then that is the resourcing standard.
It isn't an individual performance standard, however if someone is working at a slower rate then it is inevitable that someone is going to ask why.


I came from an office that had a resourcing prep standard of 1350 items/hour which is slightly higher than your 20/hour.
Nobody had any problems with it.
