if people in london are entitled to expect extra because of the cost of living ( house prices travel ect) then surley people in parts of lancs yorks scotland ect are being overpaid because house prices are cheaper ! come on, hand some of your wages over, let,s see it going to the needy south ! ( ps, i,m in essex and it,s expensive here too.

1. The agreement is recommendedarsenalbob wrote:i don't know if the deal on d2ds is done and dusted. i'm just stating that some people on here are voicing their concerns that rm already know, as with the pensions, where they are going with d2ds, and that i'm hoping we will at least be balloted on the outcome
2. The pension joint statement sets out exactly what the original statement said - do you think they are now going to not recommend it?
3. As for D2D - well the debate is still ongoing but prior to these problems the unions position was more is better, even some postmen advocated 5 lots per week, though at that point they were expecting more money. Now, is the ballot going to be union wide or delivery officers only - after all they are the guys actually doing the work. I would say though that I think that D2D has been discussed and that there is a consensus between the leadership and RM.

i agree dvbuk55, we have had years ( not recently) where the pay rise negotiations concentrated too much on allowances and sa rates, at the neglect of a decent basic wage. we would, i imagine, like to get away from the ridiculous amounts of overtime we need to do just to earn a reasonable wage. this should be done collectively. i would do 5 d2d,s instead of 3, for a collective payment on a weekly basis across the board. on a seperate note, bristol man, my monthly rates on 3 bed end terrace in essex are £106 per month, x 12. it,s a myth that london is so much more expensive. also it should be realised that some of our wives earn more and others less than ourselves. so a london postman , who has a wife in a well paid job, is also being paid more than you and i for doing the same work!! despite the fact he is better off than others outside london. i think i,m suggesting some socialist principle here, perhaps i,m on the wrong forum or even the wrong planet !!

Perhaps you could enlighten this southerner, as to how you suggest we get around this piddling form of divide?dvbuk55 wrote:No of course not! Those of us outside London are in favour of collective bargaining - probably not something you southerners will be familiar with.
That's where you bargain for everyone - not just those who feel they deserve more.

this london weighting has been paid to londoners since at least the 1960's (when i started work) though it is not paid in all industries. there are two bands, inner london and outer london. rm currently pay about £63 a week for outer and i think about £85 for inner, and i agree with you that it is probably just as expensive to live in other parts of the country. that might be next on rm agenda, get rid of london weighting

Yes I know what you mean I have had this discussion on another forum some years ago - at the time of the CWU Forum and the lost vote - which I believe was lost because of the simultaneous debate on London weighting. Many of those outside London was under the apprehension that the vote was beng used to further individual ends and not as a collective bargaining tool. Anyway I digress - the council tax I was paying at the time was well above some of the London areas getting the full amount of weighting. I also pointed out that the minimum wage didn't actually differentiate between London and say Bristol.davidessex wrote:i agree dvbuk55, we have had years ( not recently) where the pay rise negotiations concentrated too much on allowances and sa rates, at the neglect of a decent basic wage. we would, i imagine, like to get away from the ridiculous amounts of overtime we need to do just to earn a reasonable wage. this should be done collectively. i would do 5 d2d,s instead of 3, for a collective payment on a weekly basis across the board. on a seperate note, bristol man, my monthly rates on 3 bed end terrace in essex are £106 per month, x 12. it,s a myth that london is so much more expensive. also it should be realised that some of our wives earn more and others less than ourselves. so a london postman , who has a wife in a well paid job, is also being paid more than you and i for doing the same work!! despite the fact he is better off than others outside london. i think i,m suggesting some socialist principle here, perhaps i,m on the wrong forum or even the wrong planet !!
Though RM was expected to.
