New 10am actual delivery start time.

Idiots.
At Christmas time when I was doing early morning parcels 7am to 9am all the comments were positive and how they wished we did it all the time with all the post.

Where they got people wanting later delivery times I don't know, people always say the opposite.

Plus businesses complain when their post is later, one of the rounds that had a move around had one of the businesses moved to a different round which could deliver to it sooner.

The customers who want later parcels are the big businesses who send them. What they actually want is later acceptance times by RM so they can have their orders delivered the next day. This translates into later starts and finishes for us. The screws believe that the first time delivery rate will not suffer due to the amount of s**t they will dish out to anyone who dares threaten their bonuses by bringing back more undelivereds than usual.

Ugh! We usually get out on delivery about 8am ish which leaves time for five to six hours of delivery. So if you add in break time and Postie's getting in earlier than they should we are still routinely overrunning . Then we hear there is pressure from above for more cuts. Wouldn't want to be you getting out mid morning.
How do you get out at 8am ish ??
what time do you start and what time is your last delivery of yorks to your delivery office??
We start at 6.15 am and our last delivery of mail to our office is 7.50 am and then we have IPS, lucky to be out by 9.40am and then we have a 30 minute drive to start the round . Yours sounds an easy round if you can start at 8am
The first lorry from the MC, containing the first lot of sequenced mail & other mail & parcels to sort, arrives before 0500.
One postie does one hour of early IPS from 0512 to 0612. Our official start time is 0612.
The rest of the mail & parcels to be sorted arrive by 0630. Do IPS roughly from 0630 to 0700.
The second lot of sequenced letters arrive by 0700.
Some Postie's are quicker or slower at prep but I usually get out on delivery by 0800 to 0815.
Delivery takes between five & six hours currently.
You say it sounds easy but there are other factors in play. Most of us come in early, some up to 40 minutes before 0612, and I don't think any of us take any of our break time either out of choice or through lack of time. This will have to change soon when the PDA actuals start to be recorded. RM is run differently to probably every other company in the UK in that inefficiency is rewarded but if we become more productive you are actively penalised. 'Fairness' is a word currently bandied around by RM within their propaganda & greywash but they are long way from implementing it in the way they treat their front line staff. Our two latest full time recruits have both commented that our office is run better than other DO and there is a more positive attitude and a willingness to get the job done. Even so there is constant pressure to make more cuts in the office.

I find it difficult to get my head round stuff like this. We start at 7am (i.e. only 48 minutes later than Celgar) and yet most deliveries in my office aren't able to get out on delivery until 2 hours later (and some are even later than this) than Celgar does. And yes, we do have a significant number of people who start early, miss their breaks etc. I sometimes wonder if we all really do work for the same organisation.

Maybe you should all take your PAID breaks and start on time so your outdoor time would be cut, i am afraid you are making a rod for your own backs by working for free .

I'm hoping everyone agrees to do this as the alternative is job losses. We have been trying to get some to slow down for years and have so far been unsuccessful.

Yup our start times moved forward and it's all gone to hell. The genii in the higher eccles of Royal Mail don't seem to understand that the service won't improve if you crush everyone's morale. Most people with kids are gonna struggle to make the school runs now and cut off for specials. Plus, who the hell wants to give 110% if you're working till late afternoon? just my 2 cents.

Might mean that RM will need to have a van go out from each DO to deliver all the specials (or at least the 9am specials)

Celgar wrote:One of the neighbouring DOs to ours has just changed the way they operate. They now have to take their first break before going out on delivery and are not allowed to leave the office to deliver their first letter until 10am !!!! The actual delivery part of the job takes up to six hours currently in our office so I don't think it's possible to implement this farce here.

So I just wondered has any other DO just had their actual delivery start time moved forward and enforced ???
Just update this as I got the story slightly incorrect. It's actually all the posties & the union rep in said office that have decided to come in on time but not early, take all their break time before going out on delivery etc. So that makes it that they are not going out on delivery until 10am. The revolution has begun.
