Recruitment timeline

Post by bobsworth »

Here's mine:

Day 1 Applied online and did tests
Day 12 Invited for interview
Day 18 Attended interview
Day 27 Step 4 Interview successful email. Filled out 5 year work history for security checks. E-mail said checks could take up to 14 days and would get start date after
Day 38 Step 5 DVLA code request
Day 41 Step 6 conditional offer and request for photo. E-mail stated checks take up to 14 WORKING days.
Day 47 Received letter from DBS and registered. Online account said certificate was issued on Day 42
Day 62 Step 8 formal offer – induction date 11 days later

So there was a 20 day wait from certificate being issued to getting offer. I did e-mail RM and they said there was an issue with receiving the certificates from DBS. I’m still confused about the Step 4 and Step 6 e-mail timelines both stating checks take 14 days and why these couldn’t be done concurrently but guess you just have to roll with it…

The profile status date will change a few days before getting the Step 8 offer – assume this means DBS checks have been received and passed on to the relevant dept.

My recruitment experience so far

I just wanted to give a rundown of my recruitment experience so far. Not a happy ending as yet, but I’m ever hopeful. So far I have applied for 5 jobs. Two back in December at local DO. I got an interview for one of those, so the other advert was marked as unsuccessful.

Applied 3/12/17
Attended interview 13/12/17

Christmas came and went and I had not heard anything regarding the interview. I emailed the royal mail email address and was told that they had not received the interviewing paper work back from the interviewing manager. I waited another week and emailed the royal mail address to chase it up again as another local depot job had come up in my area. I had worked out by reading the helpful updates on this forum that once your status is changed to interview, you cannot apply for any other similar jobs. If you do, you get an email stating you are already going through the recruitment process.

I decided to ring the depot manager who interviewed me in December and politely ask him to submit the interview paper work from December so that HR could provide me with an outcome. I explained I would not be able to apply for any other jobs until he did this and a new job had come up. I also asked if the job was still going at his depot, but it wasn’t. The depot manager said he would submit the paper work.

He didn’t. I withdrew the application and applied for the new job which had come up on 26/1/18.

HR rang me in response to my chase email and apologised again stating they had still not received the paperwork and there wasn’t anything they could do until they did receive it. I explained I had rung the depot and spoken to the guy. I had chosen to withdraw that application because I felt that he would not submit the paper work and I wanted to apply for the new post.

26/01/18 applied for new job at another DO. That position was withdrawn.

I applied for two further jobs in March. I got an interview for one and the other was marked as unsuccessful
Applied 6/3/18

Attended the interview 19/3/18. Was told before the interview started that there wasn’t a job as it had gone to someone on the waiting list. I did the
interview and was told I may get on the waiting list.

Received an email to say I was on a 3 month waiting list 26/03/18

Since then there have not been any jobs that have come up in my area to apply for through the link :cry I have not been phoned up at any time either. I am nearly at the end of my waiting list time now as well. It is a brutal process and I am massively disappointed at this stage. Luck just does not seem to be on my side. I am considering sending a begging email before the 3 months runs out!! :pray I have had to take another awful office job now but am desperate to get in at royal mail as a postman.

I have set up alerts and check the royal mail job site every day. I’m taking peoples advice on here and just keeping at it. I started looking last September so have been at this for 9 months now. This forum has been so helpful though and I’m grateful for that. It really helped with the interview questions.

Crikey! Not a good experience so far. If you’re determined, stick with it. It will probably be worth it.
