Its true that there are a load of foreign Specials coming through the system than ever before, but Special Deliveries was always one of Royal Mail's Staples. And we should be offering as broad a range of services for our customers as possible anyway. People pay more for them because it is guaranteed timed delivery with compensation cover.
Offering Specials as a Next Day Delivery will mean that they may get forgotten about, a bit like all those parcels and packets at Xmas that get left waiting in delivery offices on Yorks. And thats not good for business and not good for us.
special delivery will still differ from other tracked items, they will still cost more and treat "special" due to the compensation pay out if lost/delayed and kept away from regular sorting,
and what is actually inside the parcel, nobody in their right mind would send a 1000 euros via any other means using RM.
dare say depending on office size a few get sent out with the 9am like now, they will know how many are due in and any regular special must be attempted anytime that day instead of 1pm deadline,
this would take the pressure off the driver who's clock watching, sometimes i've just gone and done the lot 1st off just to get rid especially if its very busy or i feel a bit off it and cut the risk of a cock up out completely
