Yes you would get in the s**t.

You need to follow the over-running procedure, which involves a discussion with the manager BEFORE you leave the office.
Oh okay thank you. Hopefully the training is good unlike my last job.

Some do it others don't, its not called summer lapsing its called absorbtion
did your office have 4 dutys taken out and everybody get a loop 7 on there frames ? most people cant and don't touch them so lets change the name and use it as a national agreement , but it doesn't matter what they call it as its just another money saving scheme for r/m ,
That happened to us when whistl was about. Stupid th8mg was, they put the wrong bits on people's frames, so you had to go to another frame to get yours. Plus you still had lapsing to do.

Then when whistle disappeared and mail rocketed again they didn't take the bits back off. They sorted the frames out and said because of what's happened we won't lapse anymore. Guess what we started doing again a couple of months later. :arrrghhh

You have to inform the DOM BEFORE you go out on delivery if you will not be able to deliver everything within duty time. It is then the DOMs responsibility to find another way to deliver the remaining mail. This is usually expected to happen with new Postie's or with Postie's who have just started delivering a new walk on their own. You shouldn't get any hassle over saying this to your DOM. In our office one of the few Postie's who want overtime will usually jump in and deliver the mail a new postie cannot deliver.
Every office is run differently. In some offices the DOM will be willing to pay 'extended' or overtime if you go over duty time. In other offices they will pay overtime but there will be 'consequences' which will put you off doing so. In other offices it won't be possible to claim 'extended' and work will invariably be done unpaid.

Without wishing to be too rude, Terry spouted a lot of God awful crap in his videos.
Was he on the cusp of something when he said lapsing/absorbtion were to be done away with?

If Terry had been in a DO recently he would have seen that by far the biggest problem we face is the dickheads they put in positions of responsability who are so woefully incompetent that it beggars belief.

It will stop when staff start doing the job properly.

I was in a meeting yesterday about pda actuals. There will be several ways of using pda data

1. Staff who finish before their time on a regular basis will be presented with their data and told to do more, up to a 1 hour in some cases.
2. Data will show if you have used equipment by mapping your walking.
3. Staff who finish before their time may be leaving the DO later and performing more sorting or prep work to make up the time.
4. Breaks can be seen, if taken half indoors and half outdoors or not at all.

Pda is now live and mapping you, do your job properly!!!

So when these backshift parcel delivery duties start (using part timers), who is going to cover the vacant shifts? Or will that mean more lapsing?

No it won't.
It will stop when people have enough work to fill their contracted hours.
This will depend on many factors - ft/pt ratio, the model week chosen, the length of delivery span, the performance standard used.
Starting on time, taking a break and using a trolley should be standard across the business.

It should be a standard but 99% don't do it. So YES it would stop lapsing, there is enough work to keep you entertained but cutting corners is what's f***ing up the job.

How can you possibly know what goes on in every DO?

We have people finishing 2 hours early. That isn't because they cut corners - it is because there isn't suffiient work to fill the contrcated hours.
So we lapse and we will continue to lapse until there is sufficient work to fill the contcated hours.

The PDA actuals aren't going to tell them anything they don't already know.
What it might show is the shower of s**t in charge haven't got a clue how to run a bath let alone a DO.

Not forgetting the fuel it costs to get to the lapsing walk. To be a customer and see 15-20 vans go past your house must be confusing.

I don't think lapsing is going to stop anymore than staff finishing well before their time. If staff suddenly decided that they were not going to take the lapse and instead work to their time, then perhaps the lapse would stop.

But then again it probably won't because the screws will just put it out for overtime and there will always be staff out there that could do with the money. :arrrghhh :arrrghhh
