A Saturday Idea!
Saturdays should be covered by VOLUNTEERS ONLY! on "premium rate" overtime.
Other delivery firms charge extra if you want a Saturday delivery - so Royal Mail should charge a premium for Saturday deliveries.....THEN......the extra charge for Saturday items would cover the "overtime" rates for volunteers.
By introducing "voluntary" Saturday working then ONLY the folk who need a bit of extra cash could take advantage of Saturday working while everybody else could spend some QUALITY time with their families.
IF there were too many Saturday Volunteers then each office could just rotate the names on a list to share out the overtime.

To be fair if we all did our job properly the flexible element proposed document would go down faster than Derby CountyGeordie wrote:the proposed agreement does that anyway, Lovejoy.
The flexibiltiy changes - longs & shorts, 30 mins either way, covering absence etc, will remove the need for reserves in offices.
Get ready for up to 1 in 7 job losses!
How could you implement flexibility if everyone left their cars, had meal reliefs and came in on time??
Royal Mail may be nasty but anyone who cuts corners is giving them an open goal!!!

Re: A Saturday Idea!
This is how Parcel Force work on a Saturday. Lets face it if the redundancy package is good enough you would get trampled in the rush. I have 38 years in The GPO, The Post Office Corporation, Consignia, Royal Mail and what other names they have called us, and have never seen a lack of volunteers to jack it in.Albethere wrote:Saturdays should be covered by VOLUNTEERS ONLY! on "premium rate" overtime.

With the way these late starts have kicked off we are never ging to have the time to work flexible.lovejoy wrote:To be fair if we all did our job properly the flexible element proposed document would go down faster than Derby CountyGeordie wrote:the proposed agreement does that anyway, Lovejoy.

Yes - late starts extend your duty even more. Instead of rural duties being able to tackle busy main roads at 7 when its quiet, people are now hitting them in rush hour (not to mention endangering themselves doing so). We are delivering in warmer weather now because it's later on in the morning or afternoon - think about in summer when we're delivering our last bag at 13:30. We will need more time to hydrate ourselves and protect against the sun also. I dont mind Royal Mail paying me to apply sun creme to myself but I would have thought they'd prefer me to be doing something profitable! :cfo

the fact we don't says it all, and deliveries will be lambs to the slaughter with only themselves to blame.
We have 34 working in our office, had a meeting and all agreed to do the job properly and no OT, didn't last long, now there is only 5 of us doing it and the other tubes are cleaning up on the OT, sad people, about to get totally fcuked over by RM and they cant see it coming

Thats exactly it mate. This agreement has the potential to hurt us but the outcome of it (if it goes through ballot) is in our own hands. royal mail have made these proposals on the back of our goodwillGeordie wrote:if members were doing the properly up and down the country we'd all know about it.

Withdrawel of goodwill = collapse of their plans - Time to wake up ??!!
