And therein lies the problem. Lets imagine that there are 5 walks out of 50 that are consistently going under their times everyday, so they add another loop on them. But then those guys who do those walks come in even earlier and walk even faster than they already are, and still finish before anyone else. Which is great but when they have a week off, the average postie just can't manage it because the round is massive and loops need to be taken off!!

They can't. This is the problem; if people who have easy walks want to stretch their day out they will. They'll walk a bit slower, try two or three neighbors as oppose to one, take another five or ten minutes extra meal relief ect ect. Then you've got the variable factors you talk about; there's a kid in our office who will walk in on his time and be out the door literally 45 minutes later, oversized sorted, bagged up loaded, everything. He's just an unbelievable prepper. I worked with him for two weeks and never got a single missort! He finishes at least an hour early every day, his walk was one of those the union said was too big. What would you do with somebody like that?

On the subject of timing rounds it's not rocket science for a DOM to come out with you on delivery. It's easy to see if someone is doing their best or not. The DOM can give advice on safety etc and suggest better ways of doing things.
Regarding the fast kid every DO will have some of these fast posties who regularly get back 60 to 90 minutes before everyone else. It's really hard to figure out how they do it and can be really annoying to others who can't get the job done faster. I think posties should probably have meetings and politely point out to each other that everyone needs to coordinate and work together to defend duties. I know for a fact DOMs are really worried the effect fast Postie's etc will have on office budgets & hours once the AHDC/PDA timings info starts being acted upon.

They only thing management can do is give fast preppers more indoor work somehow but then what is to stop them suddenly deciding to take breaks in the office?? And if they are naturally fast working outdoors maybe there could be work for them to do when they get back - but then they could just decide to go and sit in the canteen instead and watch the managers take out any extra work instead when some posties have finished.

People think that AHDC and PDA actuals are the answer towards balancing out the workloads in a section. Its not. Look at it this way, there are one or two bad apples in our office that really take the p*ss and spend hours delivering on a light duty that would take others just 2 or 3 hours to complete, and then when the managers realise that its pointless adding any work to their duties, they just decide to work like everyone else but finish before their time, albeit by doing a loop or so less than everyone else!! They have just decided to work smarter than anyone else and it works well for them. :dance

I just don't see what you can do; this job is like no other. I finished at 3 today (we're paid till 2:00), yet on the same walk Monday and Tuesday I was done by 12:30. I started at the same time and worked in exactly the same manner both days. It's just volume. Some days you're battered with oversized, others you're not. It's possible to exactly gauge what any day is going to be like.

Just step all your packets, rip off the scan stickers, forget the internationals, take one bag and leave the rest for the driver, and obviously all the mail to long driveways is a mis-sort. You too can be a naturally fast postie with RM's full blessing until it goes tits up

Oh yes, it's funny isn't it, how these long driveways and the sole house after a bit of a dead walk are always misorted on your days off? Same as those pesky flats with spiral staircases above shops. And the top floor flats.

Then I have to do all these, properly, when I come back and get 'no one else has to go over their time on this duty' when booking my docket.

No, funny that.... :arrrghhh

Celgar wrote:In our DO after we had the last revision the DOM was on board if any changes needed to be made afterwards. Quite a few roads were moved around to make the walks as equal as possible but it isn't easy as there are so many variables. If anyone wanted their walk tested the DOM would come out with you on delivery to check it was being done properly. As we knew two walks ended up being too long so those walks don't have to do IPS now and we got one or two posties on early IPS to compensate. So it can be done. It didn't truly fix the walks that were too long but the DOM did something to try and help. We didn't really want to do another complete revision as it is so stressful and causes a lot of upset.
there is one of the answers your dom willing to and accept a problem and adjust the walk which makes sense but he is one in a million the others ours included shake there heads and disappear end of discussion , as a few have said do your job in the right way don,t run to impress the dum cos it does not work . feel better now :coolr
