LIAM Colgan’s family have revealed plans to bring a search party to Germany more than two months after he vanished from his brother’s stag-do in Hamburg.

Liam, 29, vanished from his brother’s stag-do in the German city on Saturday February 10.

An update on the Help Find Liam Colgan Facebook page says: “It’s been 10 weeks since we last saw Liam.

We remain optimistic and still hope that we will see him again.”


The family went on to reveal that there were two sightings of men who matched Liam’s description last week, and they returned to Hamburg to investigate.

However, although the men had similar characteristics to Liam, it turned out to be a false alarm.

They went on to say: “This information now makes us think that it is very possible that Liam is no longer in Hamburg.

“With fresh thinking about his possible location we are drawing up plans for search groups to visit other large German cities to highlight the appeal and widen the search.

A large group of Liam’s friends will take a trip at the end of May to continue the search party.

The Facebook post continued: “The tireless support of volunteers has enabled us to search and we will never forget the incredible generosity of time, financially and emotionally.
“Without that help, we would never have come this far. It is hard to say how grateful we are to all of you and we would ask you to continue to help us.”

Last month the Inverness postie was ‘sighted’ 10 miles north from Hamburg holding a ‘help get me home’ sign.

Liam Colgan has not been seen since 1.30am on Saturday February 10 after spending the night in Hamburg with a group of 18 revellers, including brother Eamonn.

The 33-year-old police officer raised the alarm on Saturday when he woke up and discovered his brother, who is to be his best man, was not in the room they were sharing.

But Eamonn said he had to report his brother missing five times before the German police took his concerns seriously.

A man matching Liam’s description has been sighted holding a sign saying “help get me home” at a train station just ten miles north of Hamburg.


This comes after a reported sighting in Harsefield, near Buxtehude- 32miles away from Hamburg.

Recently, the family announced a new website with the aims of summarising the information relevant to Liam’s disappearance as well as to show people how they can help.
