Bank holiday on 3 day cover duties

Post by Charliecat »

Hi I am happy to say I just got a 3 day cover job even though I am quite new! Happy to know I will have a set tues and wed off. However if a cover day is a bank holiday will I be paid automatically or is it a day off given on another day? Thanks

Although as a Part week worker you would only be entitled to 3/5 of all public holidays (about 5 days)

Really? Ok I need to speak to HR then and find out as I am not knowing now if I will only be paid for 2 days for next week? Already given the Bank Holiday Easter Monday as a day off with a day in lieu so they owe me that one anyway.

No, you'll be paid for the Bank Holidays if it was a normal day of work for you. The 3/5 part will only affect you if you are on leave or it falls on a day you would not normally work. In that case, you may or may not be entitled to a day in lieu.

So if by some miracle you were on leave or had a day off on all 8 bank holidays in a year you would get 5 days in lieu.

To clarify. If your contract is for 3 days working out of 5 - you will ALWAYS be paid for 3 days minimum in regard to this issue.
