If they only took the average wage and pension of the people they represent it might improve matters. If they did the job as well ?

They would appear to think they give value for the inflated salaries they enjoy, I strongly disagree on that point.BELIAL wrote:If they only took the average wage and pension of the people they represent it might improve matters. If they did the job as well ?
Given that our recent pay deal is a full year behind the members have a right to be disillusioned with them.
What had they been doing prior to the previous lengthy deals expiring? Rather slow out the blocks in my opinion.
There was very little input, response or backing to the membership problems being experienced by the effects of that deal.
Locally the members endured relentless intimidation on the back of a deal they brokered, then apparently sat back uninterested in addressing members valid problems. Did they really spend the intervening time putting together the 4 pillar proposals ? that could have been done in a mornings work. There are a lot of questions to raise in their performance record.
They are well paid for their efforts with self negotiated T&Cs akin to politicians. I admit I do not know exactly how much they actually earn, but I know they enjoy perks that their members could only dream about at the hands of our RM employers.

At the end of the day they hold the positions they are in by the will of the membership. Most of the senior officers of the union have at sometime worked in uniform, they are not university direct entrants. If you haven't got much faith in the present lot , then use the democratic process by voting for someone more to your taste or even standing for election yourselves.

The fact that they were former posties is not in question, or the fact that they are not graduates is irrelevant.deltaforce wrote:At the end of the day they hold the positions they are in by the will of the membership. It is the question of commitment and complacency that is seen by members, once they have caught the gravy train.
I did in fact say it would take a very long time to change the attitude of our leaders in being fully committed to every day problems experienced by members that their negotiations have reaped in the past.Democracy to replace them at the top takes a lot of time and potential candidates are well in situ to replace them at the selection stage. And, the membership do not really know what they will get in national voting, it is a x making lottery. Many career candidates, even some Mavericks.
Are they worthy of the attractive salaries and perks they have ? Debatable. Climb the ladder fine but do not forget the day job they became involved with in the first place. It is democracy what put them there, no argument.
Value for money ? , they need to be more pro active in my opinion. Be more involved in attending to the consequences of their fruits of labour in the poor deals made in the past. Be on the front foot now for the problems coming and not go into hibernation awaiting the next round of deals thinking all is well when it clearly isn't.

What we have is really a pretence of democracy not the real thing. Members are deliberately kept in the dark and given as little choice between candidates as possible. All of the candidates are beige and support the status quo. Branches full of the same like minded beige people make recommendations based on their own self interest and because the membership are looking at several shades of the same old-same old they follow those recommendations.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

what pisses me off is quite simply our main man ,our chief negotiator sitting their taking plaudits with the establishment ,the enemy
the very people who would deny you your basic workers rights ,refuse your overtime worked ,bullied you to do that little bit more,
and there we have them together all nicey nicey,
they forget or forgave their position to us in preference for playing lapdog to their masters
we gave them a mandate to protect us from the very things they told us to accept ,recommend us to accept ,brainwash us with acceptance
our pec our hq our reps advise us to accept
why not just put out the deal and let the masses make up their own minds instead of using propaganda style inferences led by rm /cwu briefs
the only reason the deal was accepted the ONLY reason was because terry told us to
i hope you have a concience and sleep well
because your bed partners will stab you in the back as they have always done and always will
so you sit their in tandem with your partners in agreement just now
the divorce will come only it wont be who suffers but us
enjoy

It is really like a closed shop with in post officials directing the voting system.
So, as I said it would take a very long time to change the process we currently have.
I have heard the comments of “ put yourself forward if you think you can do better “
I tried. Like many other organisations if your face does not fit, if you speak a view that differs from the status quo, you are never taken seriously. It is a big problem at National level but it is firmly established locally, hence change is not easy. And complacency does rule the day at the very top.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm getting some bad vibes about this agreement and these videos have only served to confirm it. When Royal Mail are telling the staff that its a good agreement and that we may not agree with some of the things that are in there, then there is definitely something up, and I'm not talking about Royal Mail's share price or Terry's 'love-in'.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

You can bet that any grey areas within the deal will be exploited.postslippete wrote:I don't know about anyone else but I'm getting some bad vibes about this agreement and these videos have only served to confirm it. It would not surprise me if the DOMs will now have intensive training on how to screw the delivery staff within the agreement loop holes. Recall the flexibility clause ? How it was open to abuse by the more unscrupulous managers.
How some tried to convince members RM could bank hours. Lapsing is mandatory. No overtime can be claimed.
Your bad vibes are justified, it will be business as usual with the intimidation machine going full throttle.
Watch this space, hic.

I suppose they'll trot out that well know phrase that: "We have to offer high wages to get the best people for the job"! As mentioned it is within our own hands to change those people, but as FT says they're all shades of the same colour. I generally read their resume and try and vote for those candidates who have "Recently" had a real job within RM. When it's say "I have been a CWU Official for 35 years...." I think well it's about time you took a reality check mate. Perhaps IF these guys just went out for a FULL day with a proper Postie, not some quick walk around and then off for Lunch with the Management, where they can be BullshittedBELIAL wrote:If they only took the average wage and pension of the people they represent it might improve matters.
