THE family of missing Liam Colgan are returning to Germany after a photo was taken of a ‘homeless man’ matching Liam’s description following two new ‘credible sightings’ last week.

The 29-year-old has been missing since he vanished during his brother’s stag do on February 10.

We revealed how cops hunting the missing postie have admitted the case has left them stumped, but his worried family have taken hope from two reported sightings in Altona and the Reeperbahn.

One of the sightings brought with it a photograph – the main cause for optimism that has motivated brother Eamonn and partner Susan to head to Hamburg to continue the search.

A post from the Help find Liam Colgan Facebook page reported: “It has now been two months since our good friend Liam disappeared towards the end of a night out in Hamburg.

“Since that time a wide ranging search, described as ‘unprecedented’ by the German Police, has been undertaken by family, friends, supporters and local police with the belief that Liam needs help to find his way home.

“On Thursday last week our hope for a positive outcome was renewed due to two credible sightings being reported in Altona and at the Reeperbahn.

“On the strength of these sightings Liam’s brother Eamonn and his partner Susan will return to Hamburg this week to give fresh impetus to the search.

“One of the sightings provided us with a photograph which, whilst not conclusive, was the decisive factor for Liam’s family to make this trip.

“Whilst we are not overly optimistic regarding the photo we have received we feel there are similar characteristics between the male in the photo and Liam that need to be investigated.

“We must also consider that Liam has been missing two months now and his appearance will have changed.”

Liam’s family believe he may have suffered a head injury to the extent that he may be unaware of who he is.

There was also the previous belief that he may be hitchhiking his way through places he knows in Germany.

A body was recently pulled from the Wandsbek river but Liam’s family were quick to confirm it was not of their brother.

Speaking to STV, Eamonn said: “We were getting to a stage where things had gone quite quiet which was worrying.

“However, in the last few days, we had a sighting reported to us on Friday which had happened on the Thursday in the Altona area.

“A male was presented as homeless. He was in an area where homeless people could get something to eat for their lunch.

“The following day, we had another sighting. He was again a homeless man. Again, this gives us something to deal with.”
