Robber with machete targets Post Office van in Yardley

Police investigations are ongoing after a man armed with a machete robbed a Post Office van in broad daylight.

The robber stole a cash box from the van after threatening the driver with the blade on the morning of Friday , April 6.


Police were called to the scene on Hob Moor Road in Yardley just after midday.


The driver of the van was shaken by the ordeal, but was not physically hurt.

Photos of the scene appear to show the van parked near the junction with Newbridge Rd and Heybarnes Rd.


The thief fled in an Audi which at the time had false plates. Police found the car shortly afterwards, and discovered it had been stolen from an address in Shirley earlier this year.

A police investigation has been launched and investigators are doing forensic tests on the car.
