JOINT STATEMENT BETWEEN ROYAL MAIL AND THE CWU COVERING THE DEPLOYMENT OF A TRACK WAY FOR MOVING MULTIPLE YORKS IN THE MAIL CENTRE AND RDC NETWORK

Dear Colleagues

Branches and representatives are informed that trial activity has been taking place in line with an agreed Terms of Reference between Royal Mail and the CWU Covering the Trial of a Track Way for Moving Multiple York’s at the National Distribution Centre.

In line with the trial Terms of Reference all aspects of the activity have now been reviewed Nationally by Royal Mail and the CWU and the solution has been agreed as suitable for wider deployment in the Mail Centre and RDC Network, subject to specific criteria being met.

Discussions have therefore taken place with the business in relation to concluding a Joint Statement to enable deployment, which has been endorsed by the Postal Executive, a copy is attached for your information.

Colleagues will note that the following conditions for the deployment of this system have been agreed:

 The solution may be applied where the conveyance required is greater than 20 metres in length and space permits.

 The Track Way has a straight line route with few deviations.

 The Track Way and route does not impact on other operation flows or safety of employees on the work floor.

 A Fire Risk Assessment is conducted, taking into account building access and egress.

The Committee will note that in line with previous agreements the Joint Statement provides for continued full CWU involvement in the deployment activity.

A copy of the associated safety documentation is also attached for your assistance.

Any enquiries in relation to this LTB should be addressed to Davie Robertson, Assistant Secretary, email: dwyatt@cwu.org or shayman@cwu.org quoting reference number: 231.07
