Lapsing is only to be taken if you have time at the END of your duty. You do not have to take it out first!

Just another view on this, when there is single or double lapsing we are told to band it up and put it on our frames for taking out with you or for when you get back. I hardly ever do any lapsing, first it was never expanied what it was or where it was and I have always said Iam not working over my time, I choose not to hear when he says theres lapsing.
Because of this I do get some sarcastic comments about doing your lapsing from a few postmen.

With our previous DOM we used to have to do the absorption first. If there wasn't time to deliver both the absorption and all of our walk then we had to cut off on some of our walk mail, bring that mail back to the office, & prioritise that mail to be delivered the following day. There wasn't any extended/overtime payment available.
Nowadays the system has changed somewhat and mail cannot generally be allowed to be left and delivered the next day.

Union rules? What on earth?

Surely if people have time left at the end of their duty/working day then they are required to lapse? It should not matter if you're full or part time???

Our office is the same. Lapsing is for full timers only. Part timers who finish early get to go home.

I can you tell how pleased the full timers in our DO would be if I said 'okay, mate, if you just drop me back and then you can return on your own and knock out that lapsing.' :left: :cuppa

If you have hours left on duty and there is work left that needs to be done you can be asked to do it. Doesn't matter if you are full or part time.

It can't be "Union Rules" for the simple fact that nowhere that I have seen in the agreement that covers lapsing does it say part time staff don't have to lapse!

That is a clear case of YET ANOTHER agreement being abused or totally misinterpreted by a DOM or CWU rep.

Is this because your depot PT staff have contracted hours that start at 0900ish, tying up duty and straight on delivery, working five days a week with a finish time of 1400ish including meal relief? If so, chances are that lapsing would simply mean more overtime for them, I've yet to see a 5 hour "delivery only" duty that works including the meal relief... Making significant time in this job for lapsing and sometimes finishing early comes from doing 7.5hour+ days with indoor work, in my experience.

You should try working under my Dom, we don’t lapse when he wants to go home early! No stress for him trying to get non lapsers delivery covered and he gets to go home at 9:30! Talk about abusing power!!!!!
