Trolley Trackers

Post by IloveMYredTROLLEY! »

I'd struggle to show you a single van with two LWTs in it, heck even one is a rarity! :left:

And yet on loops with blocks of flats, where LWT use is not mandatory, pouches are stuffed to the gills, with no consideration of the 5Kg weight limit.

Because replenishing a pouch for loops takes more time, which means increased overtime/cutoff on bad duties (and puts a target on the OPGs' backs), or it eats into their "early finish" time.

5kg weight limit? Isn't it 11kg or 16kg ?

No.
Where a trolley cannot be used due to terrain or access then the weight limits are well below the figures you quoted.
For tenement flats the recommendation is no more than 5kg and elsewhere i think it was 8.

!6kg is what we used to carry.
11kg is the max weight for a drop bag.

I wouldn't get too carried away if I were you. Firstly , where are they going to embed a tracking device on a golf trolley?
Secondly,as they slow you down considerably it will increase overtime /cut offs, so the compulsory use element will be sacrificed in the name of savings, because despite the lip service paid to all this working to your time, utilising all paid hours etc ,by management and union, the implicit encouragement is to praise the runners ,risk takers et al because they give the coverage that is needed by way of overtime, those who do it properly minimising risk etc.are the ones that appear to get it in the neck for being "slow". Thirdly, the managers can't/ won't enforce their usage now, people are still using their cars, they dont enforce that amongst many, many, other things that are supposed to be "mandatory", so your optimism is wildly misplaced. The motto seems to be that the end justifies the means,so turn a blind eye to most things
As for everybody working the same way , well that won't ever happen either, for example, if you have 2 or 3 delivery offices in 1 town , you invariably find they work completely different ways, they even call equipment by different names. In my working life and my long and indistinguished time here, I have never seen a more shambolic organisation, how its lasted 500 yrs god only knows.,clampdowns happen for a week or so and then move on to the latest thing. For example , this month tracked items, then SD's , then D2d's ,it works for a bit ,then they forget it and move on, until some rubber desk johnny highlights a problem ,then round and round we go.

Can't see it will being enforced due to too many people finishing later and it will eat the budget and increase cut off. Managers will turn a blind eye on it.

No they don't.
If they did, so what?

WE have blokes at our office who won’t use a LWT as they reckon that real men don’t need them. One guy goes as far to say that they are only for homosexuals to use. Mind you he’s one of the idiots who wears shorts all winter cos “that’s what proper men do”.

:hmmmm

So you correctly berate him for inferring trollies are only for gay people and then YOU call people that wear shorts all year idiots.

As a short wearing, trolley user it sounds to me like you are just as bad as each other.

Sorry maybe just the way I put it across. The point I was making was that these are the sort of attitudes we are up against with people who are reluctant to do the job as it needs to be done. This guy’s comments about trolleys being for homosexuals tie in with his comments about only woofters wear trouser - how you can change this sort of thought process is beyond me but until we do then we will continue to shoot ourselves in the foot.

No they don't.
If they did, so what?
So if there is no discernible advantage by not using one, why are they not used uniformly?

Habit. Peer pressure. Fear of change. Wrong perception.
A complete disregard for the long term health implications.

it IS faster to not use one... and thats why people dont, people still job and finish so every cut corner is an advantage to finishing that bit earlier.

On my park and loop if I have a new partner and I get their trolley out the van for them, they'll say oh no I don't use one of them. I say, you'll struggle you've got 2 bags this loop! I always put any packet in bags if it'll fit, bag of mail, bag of packets. It's the quickest way to do it. The driver gets about 3 mins extra per loop to do packets! Like that's enough. Planning eh..........

You don't have to use a LWT. They are rubbish and cause stress to my elbow. They are ok for some jobs but not many. Just keep your pouch under 8Kg and you don't need to use one.
