Position withdrawn

Post by Andy18 »

Hi everyone. I've applied for four jobs at Royal Mail as a Postman but two have now come back saying position withdrawn! Has anyone else experienced this?
If you are a postman, how long did it take for you to get a position with RM, did you start as a casual / temp or did you find permanent work immediately?
I'd love to work for RM but I'm disappointed that two positions I've gone for have been withdrawn without any explanation. Why even advertise them in the first place??

Most of the workings of Royal Mail's HR system are a mystery. I joined at my first attempt at applying, though the entire process took several months.

I can only guess at why the positions were withdrawn, it could be restructuring at the office, it could be someone leaving changed their mind! At our office most people have joined through applying for a job, in many cases our office isn't their closest to home but was the one advertising a vacancy. In the last few years or so we have had 3 people join directly after working as a temp/casual - of those, two have since left due to the way they were treated after joining, and the other has the distinction of being the only person I know to have been sacked for being useless!
Royal Mail
failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.

I got in at the first attempt albeit I was put on a waiting list but luckily only had to wait two weeks! Sometimes positions are withdrawn because existing employees have transferred and they get preference.

'Position withdrawn' has happened to me twice. Was told it was filled either by a waiting list candidate or filled by a postie transferring from another branch.
