Throwing off, part timers

Post by still waiting »

Hi I started three weeks ago contracted 9-2, on my first day they asked if I could come in at 8 but I can’t as I have kids.
So I get in for about 8.45 and have to throw off my own round therefore not getting out until 10. From what I’ve been told I shouldn’t be having to throw it off on my hours and should be able to go in bundle up and go.
The others on my hours go in an hour early to throw off and get an hours overtime for doing it so it seems unfair that I’m having to do it for no extra when it’s not part of my job.
Can any one clarify if I’m supposed to throw it off or should it be done when I get there?

Throwing off, part timers

Despite people saying there is, there is no hard and fast rule as to what you are expected to do at work - except work of course.

However, you are not "required" to work beyond your hours.

So they can ask you to do any job-related task during your working hours, as long as it is a lawful and reasonable request.

If you can't complete all the assigned tasks within your contracted hours then its the manager's problem. They can decide to offer overtime or instruct others to complete the tasks you are unable to do. If you want the overtime when offered, take it, if you don't decline.

Its easy to say, and for the 1st time its hard to do, but it does get easier, always have a witness when informing that manager you cannot complete.
