How do you get up to speed though? I don't feel that i'm slow at all, just don't feel the round is doable. Some come in at 5am.Judgee wrote:You are not doing yourself any favours and not doing any favours for anyone else that has to cover the round when you are not there. Start at your start time, take your break, use the trolley and cut off. If they roll it over cut off more. They won't cut down the round but will probably move you to a round more suitable for your pace until you get up a bit more speed.

Coming in early IS overtime. Plus you don’t take a break so you are working from 6:30-7:50 for free plus 40 minute break. 2hrs for free a day times 5 is 10 times average 4 weeks a month so you’re giving them 40hrs a month for FREE!Jamiechelt wrote:I get paid for the overtime, just not for coming in early.number one wrote:You need the overtime but work for 2+hrs a day for free. I didn't think I was slow when I started either but trust you probably are. You've only been at it a month, give it six months and you'll be doing things without even thinking, this all speeds you up. In the mean time either stop getting in early and working for free and cut off or accept the fact that you are not willing to help yourself and just get on with it!Jamiechelt wrote:How do you get up to speed though? I am sorry to say, but you are part of the problem with Royal Mail at the moment. If you work for free, THEY will let you. Stop running round your walk! Follow over-running procedure! Do your job properly!

Don’t go in early unless they are paying you to! That’s just giving them free labour and will never solve anything! 1200 doors for a double walk isn’t that high at all but obviously it does depend on the types of house. Some walks have 1000+ on each walk in my office. Ask for a bigger van if possible if your stuff doesn’t fit including trollies.Jamiechelt wrote:1200 total doors for our walk.. 600 each. Trolleys will not fit in the van!!! They pay from 7.50 only, but if I went in that late I wouldn't get out til 11.

Ask your DOM to come out with you on delivery and time you. If it is too long you should be able to something sorted.

But if he’s jogging and not taking break how can he be slow? You don’t need to go that fast, just walk at a reasonable pace adhering to health and safety. I’d say most posties work way faster than they should even if they think they’re doing the job properly.Judgee wrote:I didn't think I was slow when I started either but trust you probably are. Firstly, you're an idiot from working for free. That doesn't pay your bills at the end of the day. Stop that immediately. Don't jog, don't cut corners, take your breaks and insist on a trolley. Continue to do this every day and eventually you'll either be moved or the job will be sorted by having calls taken off. JUST STOP WORKING FOR FREE!

Walking/jogging pace is only one element of the job. You get quicker sorting up on frames, you get quicker looking at mail before you deliver it, quicker at filling out 739 cards, using the PDA, you make less mistakes. Or do you not think so Jpro?Jpro747 wrote:But if he’s jogging and not taking break how can he be slow? You don’t need to go that fast, just walk at a reasonable pace adhering to health and safety. Thanks everyone, I guess you fear not being kept on after 6 months if you don't comply.

There is nothing wrong with being compliant, the problem is you are not being compliant. You are coming in early which is not compliant with your contract. You are not taking breaks which is not compliant with health and safety. You are running/jogging which could possibly be bad for your long term health and therefore not compliant with health and safety. You are carrying bags which are overweight which is not compliant with health and safety. You are not using a LWT Trolley which is not compliant with health and safety or your contract of employment. It also sounds that the van that is being used is being overfilled which is also non compliant with company procedures and possibly Road Traffic Acts.
Get hold of your office union representative and get this nonsense sorted out with the DOM before it takes over your life and makes you hate coming in to work.
