Needing to contact Operations Manager

Post by JulesyG »

Hello, I've been working for the RM for nearly 6 months. I'm part of a DO that seems to have more than 1 manager and they don't communicate or seem to contradict one another. I'm really needing to talk to someone higher up about my problems because the managers just ignore me or they say "I'll sort it" and don't. It's getting more serious now as it effects the whole running of several SPDOs. I've tried to find a contact number or email of the Operations Manager, all I can find is their name on Success Factors. Can anyone help? Cheers in advance.

Thanks for the reply WallaceCat, much appreciated

I was going to give the Operations Manager the heads up first and see if they can sort out the issues as it concerns the consistent running of at least 2 SPDOs and the money being wasted on using agency staff on much highers wages than using available contracted staff. Although I'm concerned as a contracted employee it also bothers me as a taxpayer and RM user myself I'm equally concerned if this is going on in other DOs. I'm sure shareholders should be as well.

Hi fishtank, because it'll be yet another company to bail out

Lol, as if anyone would bail out Royal Mail.
If this company goes to the wall it will hit it full in the face. Even if the government did step in they could always use the £3.5 billion they got for selling it off in the first place or failing that the £25 billion of pension assets they hoovered up or the umpteen billion in profits they've scooped over the years.

Worried taxpayer? pmsl....

Sorry, no political debate was intended. I'm just looking for information on contacting people within the company that can help situations with running the daytoday efficiently and getting the mail out to customers.

It's my experience that bypassing the chain of command is frowned upon in this business. Assuming you're an OPG you report directly to your line manager. Suggestions for improvement could be directed to justsayit@royal mail.com. Any potentially illegal or unlawful acts can be reported using the whistleblower system.

You started the thread as if you had a personal work related issue which should be addressed internally using the grievance procedure. You can't just contact the Ops Manager without first formally addressing the situation at line and then second line manager stage otherwise his/her phone would never stop ringing with pissed off OPGs.

We, as it doesn't just affect my job which is personal, have tried time and again talking to the line managers and the DO manager, but as I've said they brush us off each time and nothing happens apart from them not communicating or contradicting each others actions, them arguing it out and again back to square one.

The actions that can be taken you have mentioned are the first I've heard of and I thank you for that. Since starting in the RM I was given no information at all, I wasn't even told who my line manager was until several weeks after starting, not official just a PO manager with some contact numbers. No numbers or contact information whatsoever was given to me by the RM. Even the SPDO where I was supposed to be working didn't even know I was starting.

It seems a "seen and not heard" system. I will try the Union as suggested and look into the suggestions you have made also. Thank you for your time.

Correct.
It really pisses everyone off, which is why it is a good idea to do it every now and again. :dance
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
