Missing postie Liam Colgan's manager reveals locals are 'devastated by his disappearance'

The Inverness postman would check up on elderly villagers along his route and hand them their mail if they were unable to lift it from the doorstep.

Missing postie Liam Colgan's manager has told how residents along his route are devastated by his disappearance.

Nicola Lyall, operations manager for Royal Mail in Inverness , says kind-hearted Liam would often go into houses to check on the elderly villagers while he delivered their post.


She said his colleagues have been asked for updates from worried members of the community in Fortrose every single day since he disappeared on February 10.

Nicola said: "Being a rural community, Liam visited a couple of our more vulnerable and elderly customers every day on this delivery.

"He would go into their houses to check if they were okay and he made sure that he handed them their mail as they were unable to lift it from the doorstep.

"These ladies are devastated by his disappearance. The community as are shocked by his disappearance and ask the posties every day if there have been any updates.

"This is testament as to how well thought of Liam is. I spoke to our staff in our Fortrose office and they told me that Liam is great with people, loves being a postie and is very well liked in the village.

"Not one person had a bad word to say about him. He's a family lad, who always spoke about the bairns, his sister and brother and loves taking his niece to the football.

"Liam is known around the local and outlying pubs and hotels for his singing and the Fortrose team ventured into Inverness one night to surprise him - but hiding at the back of the room, not to give him stage fright and then charging to the front half way through his first song.

"I warmly remember the time Liam cheekily had his eye on my company car, as it would hold all the band's gear - and he said I wouldn't need it at the weekend.

"The team commented that his disappearance is so out of character for Liam and that he always has a cheeky smile on his face.

"There's not a single day that he isn't talked about in the office and his team are eager that he gets in touch and comes home."

Liam worked in the Royal Mail's rural Highland offices in 2016 then in Inverness Mail Centre over Christmas.

He worked from Inverness Delivery Office from New Year up to the time of his disappearance.

Possible sightings of Liam have been reported in the town of Buxtehude, about 20 miles south west of Hamburg.


The family now think it is possible Liam could have travelled beyond Hamburg.

Eamonn, 31, said: We still have a very strong belief that he is out there. For some reason he has not been able to be in touch with us.


"There are so many theories that go through your head and one is that Liam sustained some sort of head injury that has confused him as to who he is and where he is.

"He might not even be aware that he is actually lost.

"There is a strong possibility he is no longer in Hamburg and that is why we are trying to raise awareness as far and wide as we can."
