Royal Mail Recruitment Process - Long Process

Post by dazzler1751 »

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this but I applied to be a postman at the Huddersfield Delivery Office on 24th December 2017, on 4th January 2018, I received an email saying I have been invited for an interview, which I attended on 9th January 2018.

On 25th January 2018, I received an email saying I'd passed the interview assessment and my application was progressing on to the next stage, I went back on to my profile, filled all the information they need and submitted it.

On 26th January 2018, I received an email asking for information on my driving licence and asking for a code and the last 8 digits of my driving licence, that I replied to and responded to on the very same day.

On 30th January 2018, the status has been updated to 'Information Required' - I went back on and apparently there is a few gaps in the information provided, yet I cannot see where the gaps are, I have provided 5 years worth of my address history, my work history which is only one job which I have been in the last 11 years, my mothers birth name (full name) and my name change history - although there isn't enough room.

I have made a few tweaks and added extra information, which I know I have covered, I have done everything they have asked from me but still says 'Information Required'.

I have emailed Royal Mail on the employment screening email address and my application email address. I have tried calling 03456001785 but its all automated and no use whatsoever.

I have tried to call my local delivery office, no answer so left a message (no doubt I won't get a response).

I thought the whole process took 7 weeks from date of application? My seven weeks is nearly up and they havent even started my security checks, I have even emailed them my DBS certificate as well, clearly will make no difference.

All I want is the formal offer so I can hand in my notice with my current employer, it's driving me crazy, that I can't speak to a person about it and everything with Royal Mail is web based and takes a long time.

Any advice/tips? Do I have anything to worry about?

Guess where I work. :left: :left:

With the gaps in work history, it appears sometimes they are over sensitive with the dates, so might be worth checking them and making sure. Also, I have heard that periods of unemployment and study also have to be included to fill any gaps.

Another thing is that the recruitment process is centralised so the DOM at Huddersfield is probably not even aware that someone has applied for the job, it also means that sometimes the whole process gets quite slow. It may be that you have given all the information but double check to make sure, also check your spam folder as sometime @royamail get sent there automatically.

I had the same Information Required status for a while and it ended up the interview information/paperwork, Passport/driving licence/interview ect had gone missing.
Telephone does not work, I asked politely by replying to the latest recruitment email if I could assist with providing the required info and asked if it was me holding them up

It may sound bad and not offer any comfort but I was sort off giving up waiting when I received an email form recruitment asking me to go into the office I applied for and bring all the basic information again. Long story short 3 weeks later I have started work and its pretty good so far.

It's just a headache really, I've literally just gone back in and I provided my work history up until October 2004, can't say I am not providing all the information they need, I checked everything else and it all looks correct, I have provided my 5 years if not more address history, I have been known by a few names (good reason) but there wasnt enough fields so at the bottom I just reminded them where I work, how long I have been there, the address of my current employer, how often I am paid, I also gave the list of the names I have been known by from birth until now, I provided them with this evidence when I had my interview.

As I have probably said before, I have emailed them my basic DBS disclosure thinking it would help but makes no difference because no matter what email address you use, they don't respond. I get their are centralised with the amount of people getting jobs up and down the country, but why say its a seven week turn around when my 7th week is this week.

I know I will pass the checks, all I am waiting for now more than ever is a formal offer so I can finally hand my notice to my current employer, waiting for this is worse than waiting for the interview outcome!!

UPDATE!!!!

Since my last post, things have progressed :)

I emailed Royal Mail and made it urgent, I soon got a response and found that 'Information Required' referred to the interviewing manager not filling out the form correctly.

This was quickly resolved and I moved on the pre-employment checks, which only took a week, passed that and received my FORMAL offer on 16th February 2018.

I will be starting with Royal Mail on 19th March 2018, so happy now that I can finally leave an admin job and work more local/save on travel costs!!

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy the job. You've already found this place which is a fantastic resource for finding stuff out that you might not get told at your DO. I can honestly say that my six months so far would have probably been very different had I not found this forum and the wealth of knowledge it contains.

Congrats again, welcome to the circus :nana

Hiya im currently in the security process, received the email on 16th April confirming this, I then received an email on 24th April confirming my driving license but have heard nothing since. Is this normal or is there something I should do as it said in the original email it should only take 14 days? Hope you can help
Thanks Sam

Hi Sam, I replied to you on the other feed but I had a response saying it took one persons security checks 18 working days! 14 working days for us is next Friday if u don’t include the 16th (as that’s when we both received the email)

Hi Guys
I had my interview on 19th and haven't heard the outcome yet (which doesn't seem unusual looking at comments made previously) but my status keeps changing every other day from Interview/Assessment to Sch Int - 1st Stage and now back to Interview/Assessment. The waiting is frustrating. Is the decision purely down to the DOM, or does the ultimate decision lie with recruitment?
