But then you would only get say 2.5% and have to wait till April for the next bit
2.5% from April or 5% from October is the same isn’t it?
No 5% in October is better for future pay rises as it will compound with each pay rise.

Backdating to Apr with lower percentage is better for cash in hand, but worse for future pay rises.
Backdating to Oct with a 5% pay rise is better for future pay rises, but less of a payout.

So I guess it depends on each individual's personal outlook.

Well the pay rise is a bit poor really, being below the rate of inflation and the reduction in hours is pointless unless they make the walks shorter and more manageable. How will it help any of us really? The pensions outcome is good for me as I put off joining the decent scheme for too long and ended up joining the crap one. So myself and anyone in the crap one will at least be better off at retirement. Not really sure what to think about this? :hmmmm

On the face of it the pension looks like a big improvement for anyone on the current DC scheme.
Together with the reduction in hours (so effective payrise for those on PT hours), the agreement seems to have gone a long way in equalising benefits across the workforce.
Nice work.

Inflation for April 2017 onwards was 2.6% up to 3% and is set to rise. The 5% based over the 18 month period it covers is still effectively below inflation and the 2% for 2019 looks very low? :hmmmm

Northbynorthwest wrote:The pay is smoke and mirrors. It's effectively a pay freeze for 6 months, then a 5%rise for the next 18 months then 2% for the next 12. No one I have spoken to is very interested in the hour off the working week. Will prob be 12 minutes a day for most people
If you earned 20k in a year a 2.5% pay rise would be worth £500.
If you earned 10k in 6 months a 5% pay rise would be worth £500.
How much overtime did we do April to September?
How much did we do October to March?

What the difference an hour will make since the indoor work is shrinking is an hour less delivery a week than you would have done or one more full-time job in your office. What the whole SWW means is that by 2022 there might be more than 12 full-time staff left in delivery. If that doesn't interest "most people" I give up with RM staff.

Looks to me like most of the pay rise was negotiated by the arbitrator /. Mediator

Is there anything on the bullying and harassment culture within Royal Mail? An increase of money is lovely (but let’s face it, this is a below inflation increase, that’s written as a 5% increase but really is 2.5% each year, way to dress it up) but I value mental health over money. Same as little point in that the reduction of hours with the stupid way you have to ‘cut off’ to be able to leave on time.

Just read the post that contains all the information. Interesting. I think that CWU have missed out some important issues. B&H is one, cutting off system another, P/T’s sickness and holiday pay. Massive shame since for some people that’s more important than pay rise. Although it could be in the full agreement, but unlikely since it should be drawn attention to.

The fact this deal has taken us 9 months on from when the pay increase should have kicked in 1/4/17 and they have agreed to freeze pay for the 6 months from 1/4/17 does make a mockery of this 'deal'. The principle of that is all wrong. And nothing at all on B and H? Is the new pension deal dependent still on a government rule change? Far too much left hanging to vote positively on.
