Once the Postal Executive have voted to accept the agreement and recommend it to the members it is than it will be subject to wider consultation.

First will be a two day meeting of the Div Reps , than a National Briefing and that 9 Divisional meetings where the unit reps will be in attendance.

During this time Divisions and Branch’s will decide where they will be recommending the agreement to their members or recommending rejection.

In addition there will loads of gate meetings to discuss the merits or otherwise of the agreement to the members.

The members will than have the final say in a vote.

There will be nothing to hide but this is the process which things will take.

To be honest this has dragged on so long now, obviously the CWU negotiator's haven't had enough free steak dinners yet. So what happens when the members reject the offer?
or are we going to be rail roaded it voting yes again ol yes I have been a member for 30yrs and are losing patience with the out dated views of the union. BUCK YOUR IDEAS UP CWU WE HAVE BEEN WAITING A YEAR NOW FOR YOU TO GET US A PAYDEAL. I know it was about pension too but at least next time negotiate the pay deal separately.
No chance of it getting rejected, it'll fly in because of the back pay.

Don't think for one minute the back pays going to be any thing like you think the 550 back pays not happening for a start.Thats why the cwu want a few days to digest the agreement because they are not sure how to break the bad news to the workers.

A gate meeting will usually be used at a DO or MC where there are a lot of staff and you don't really want to discuss issues in front of the management. If you don't work in one of those big places you won't have had one.

When members of the CWU get to vote on the agreement with RM will that include any changes to the pension scheme or will it be that CWU/RM just work out the best scheme they can and then we are given it ??

Why are posts being deleted without acknowledgment from this thread?

I say again, some of us remember the last deal. That one the union leaders couldn't wait to tell us about too. The fact that they need half a week to add their spin to it, leads me to believe we are in for deal of the century #2 ©

The original post was deleted on request, Followed by the whole topic which included replies plus quotes of the original post. So I can see the logic in deleting all.

I suppose by the end of the week the negotiators agreement will be seen in it's entirety, But we have been given a preview from a reliable source & I understand if confidentiality has restricted information being available prior to official release.

As a CWU member since the late 1970s, I can honestly say this is the longest, drawn out pay agreement, I have ever known. The way forward spilt the membership, postman v PHGs. PHGS ended up standing still on pay for years, Postmen/women felt stuffed re : door to door. I fear this agreement is going to play one against the other. My fear is that my pre 2018 pension is going to be diluted to pay for a new one going forward. I am happy to have a fair pension for all going forward, as long as what I have earned up to 2018 remains intact. I have three years to go and little time to do any thing about any changes now. A bit like the Waspi women. However whatever happens I am leaving. But away from my personal fears. Will this agreement pit Do against Mail centre? Will we see the normal Royal Mail trick of less back pay? Finally, when should we start negotiating for the next pay agreement? I suggest, well, about a year before it is due.

Exactly. It is clear Royal Mail policy to attempt to divide and conquer it's workforce. This is why the original plan was to give all new starters different rights in regard sickness, pay et al. Eventually this leads to a workforce where union membership is a minority (why would any newcomer join a union if not offered support by established members?) and hence, no power.

It is why we *all* need to vote 'No' if there is any attempt to divide us in this new agreement, especially in regard pensions. It should be automatically thrown out by members anyway IMO, if it offers pension assurances based on changing legislation in the future, as that is a guarantee of nothing. It is a pathetic effort after all this time, if that is all negotiators have managed, but it wouldn't surprise me.

what puzzles me is that Terry Pullinger IS one of the negotiators, and he is on the executive is he not? no doubt the others are part of the executive or have a strong union affinity. there must be some communication with the negotiators and the executive during these talks. I would have thought so anyways. why does the executive need to go over these negotiations when they are the ones who have negotiated the deal....or am I misreading this? Fish or Dingo can you clarify?

Because they are probably employing PR men to read over it and suggest a method of communication to deceive members into agreeing to a half-arsed deal. We've already had the opening salvo in this thread, with Dingo reminding us of all the things that aren't going to be in it that we should be thankful for. That suggests it is going to be a crock of shite.

The PEC have not had the same access to the talks as the negotiators have, they are not sitting in a room waiting for updates from Terry, some of them are based elsewhere in the country and some of them actually have real jobs, a confidentiality agreement was also in place which applies to PEC members as much as us. In reality of course they will have been discussing aspects of the deal but this will be the first time the full agreement will be placed before them and the ins and outs explained by the people who were in the room.

I personally expect some resistance to certain aspects of the agreement especially around the pension and transitional arrangements. Not a full scale revolt but some questions need to be asked about a solution that isn't really guaranteed to happen.

There will also presumably be discussions on how best to present the deal to the membership, when rep presentations and gate meetings are going to happening and the timescales for voting.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Fish - agree with you on pension and transitional arrangements issue. The only acceptable transitional arrangement for DB members is to keep the existing scheme open to future accrual (for say 6 month’s) until outcome of the CDC option is a certainty. If RM and CWU are so confident on the introductory timescale, why do we need an interim Cash Balance arrangement ?

Ros Altmann’s article about CDC New Style Pensions is well worth a read, significantly written way back in 2014 ! What has happened since then ?
