IMPS, ILSMs and CSS machines can't be retrofitted to handle large letters as well. Don't know if the T2K machines are capable of sequencing and I don't know if they would be viable for sequencing all letters and large letters if they are able to (time taken).maisymoo04 wrote:so mail centre staff will get the best deal out of thisSpacePhoenix wrote:Nope, to further mechanise RM would near enough have to replace all existing machinesCelgar wrote:Further mechanisation in mail centre![]()

Probably less then half of existing MCs could handle a packet sorting machine (size). Something like https://www.solystic.com/ecommerce-packet-sorting" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; might be possible to fit into MCs.
It'll be DO staff who vote the deal in or out, they outnumber all other staff by around 2:1

The MC that serves our DO already has a packet/parcel sorting machine up and running. We still get plenty of missorts though. In addition it apparently can't or isn't used in a way so as to separate the tracked from non-tracked Parcels. So we have to be extra careful our end to avoid cock-ups. In short there doesn't appear to be an advantage in this part of the new mechanisation programme. Unless maybe they can make additional staff savings at the MC.

Yes I have but I always take anything RM & the CWU say with a large pinch of salt. Don't be surprised to see all what I have written above to be offered to us in the relatively near future.Stunners wrote:I take it you haven't even read any of the updates lately ?Celgar wrote:Won't be today now will it. My personal guess is the deal will include:
A pay raise from date of agreement but no backdated pay.
Pension changes depending on change of law via the government.
Up to one hour later start times based on distance from mail centres.
Additional 12 minutes later start time from loss of one hour working time per week.
Further mechanisation in mail centres resulting in more absorption, lapsing, and loss of walks.
Proposal of two hour time window for tracked items.

Well if that is it would be like stepping into a big steaming dog turd before you got into your house and only realised later because one you had a cold and two because your wife will not speak too you! Anyone who thinks that is a deal is deluded but when we get the details let's not just look at the money look what you have to do for that money and that deal these day's people sell out their right's that were fought for by brave men women and even children back in the past!Celgar wrote:Yes I have but I always take anything RM & the CWU say with a large pinch of salt. Erm. There seems to be a great concern regarding details of the wage increase and how the pension will be fixed or reworked. On the other hand there seems a desire to not want to discuss arguably more important issues such working conditions, bullying & harassment, and all details regarding collection, sorting, & delivery of the mail. From my above list of predictions therefore I will bet that everything listed except the pay raise not being backdated will be passed & given the thumbs up by the PEC.Lincox wrote:You think that would even get through the PEC meeting next week?

You are already discounting your thoughts on the pay rise, so I was right, the PEC will not allow your overall thoughts to progress.Celgar wrote:Erm. Okay 'Lincox'. I will fully explain my personal guess as to the results of the pay talks. You will then realise that unfortunately my prediction will likely be true.
1) Pay raise percentages have already been agreed by the negotiators. There is some 'smoke & mirrors' over whether this will be backdated. In past disputes pay increases, and occasionally bribes of additional monies as well, have always been made out to be more important to us than our working conditions. Therefore the PEC will not allow any pay raise to NOT be backdated to April 2017.
2) RM & CWU have already both agreed to the plan to devise a new pension model which will require government legislation. Therefore the PEC will agree to this plan.
3) RM want to cut back on employment costs so if they can move the whole operation forward by xx period of time there will be cost savings via reductions in additional pay for early work. RM dress this up as making a larger time window for companies to be able to post mail or Parcels earlier. The reason is more likely the former reason. The PEC will reluctantly agree to this as they have done so before.
4) The CWU want to get us down to a 35 hour week and for what ever reason RM seem to be in agreement. Another working hour will be taken away with the current pay talks so as with first hour we lost our start times will be moved forward by an additional 12 minutes per day. This is a CWU idea and their own policy so the PEC will approve it.
5) Further mechanisation in MCs is the policy of RM and CWU seems to be in agreement with this. Big business and large shareholders are also in favour of it. We have had mech letter sorting for years now. Mech sorting of packets & Parcels is currently being implemented and is already in our local MC. Mech sorting of flats will be implemented in the not too distant future. When it happens, as when mech sorting of letters was introduced, there will reworkings or removals of walks or more likely additional absorption or lapsing. The PEC will approve of this policy as they have previously done so.
6) Trials have already begun using data capture to decide on the feasibility of providing a time window for delivery of tracked items. Customers will currently be given a time window in their email/SMS to do with their tracked parcels but if they ask you the system isn't actually operational yet. Anyway, a four hour window sounds a bit naff doesn't it so I predict a two hour window system will be implemented. The union have a tendency to capitulate and they might even agree this is a good idea. So the PEC will probably approve this idea for us.
So there you go. All my guesses are very likely to be approved by the PEC for you to vote on. If these choices and maybe other ones I haven't thought of are offered to you I would suggest you vote no.

Probably as a result of outward MCs mixing Tracked and non-Tracked together when they should be dispatching them in separate bags/sleeves. Best guess is that the outward MCs are short on staff so just mixing them together to get stuff out the door quicker.Celgar wrote:The MC that serves our DO already has a packet/parcel sorting machine up and running. Mech sorting of flats might happen in larger MCs but in smaller MCs there isn't anywhere near the traffic needed to justify the cost of the machines

Even if you are right, fortunately I will not have to chose to vote yes or no as a retired member I do not get a vote.Celgar wrote:Okay 'Lincox'. I will fully explain my personal guess as to the results of the pay talks. You will then realise that unfortunately my prediction will likely be true.
