Driver responsibilities.
Years ago Royal Mail changed vans every 3 to 4 years and they were well maintained now they have to last 10 years and are totally wrecked especially on rural rounds the garage staff can’t keep up with the work load as they are taking on private cars and neglect their own fleet. My van has been in 3 times for an abs sensor and it still has not been fixed, 12 plate van with 136754 miles on the clock.

if a vehicle is fitted with it you are entitled to expect it to work.
If a vehicle is off the road only a mechanic can put it back on the road as was told to me by our old ASR.
the possibility exist that you have become used to rear sensors and reverse till they beep, do you think you would get away with a non-blameworthy if you used the reason for the accident as the sensors didn't go off as i'm used to and oh yeah i knew there was a pmt1 form in but decided it was alright to drive.

If it's the ABS sensors and the light comes on on the dashboard, then that is a MOT fail, therefore unroadworthy end of discussion.

The rear sensors have never worked since I have driven the van. Does that mean I shouldn't drive it because of that?bogstandard wrote:if a vehicle is fitted with it you are entitled to expect it to work.

i wouldn't, but thats me. If it has them and they don't work i'd be asking why? until you're given an acceptable reason there is an unidentified/unidentifiable electrical fault.CPTNemoUK wrote:The rear sensors have never worked since I have driven the van. Farm dogs on a lot of our routes bite the reverse sensors which stops them working , they also bite through the tyres giving us punctures and all the office does is send out a standard letter saying keep dogs under control farmer just laugh.bogstandard wrote:i wouldn't, but thats me.
