A new conveyor belt was installed in November 2017, as all other RDC's, to process parcels.
We have been hand scanning tracked 24 - but apparently this practice will cease from today as this product needs to go through a volumetric scanner.
Does anyone have similar experience or knowledge of why the method of processing was allowed if unsuitable.?

I don't know about other RDC's or MC's or even if they have processed tracked 24 in the same way.
I do know all RDC's were given one new conveyor & NDC two in Oct/Nov last.
Will try to seek confirmation if change occurs.

Can't see us doing it on a conveyor belt, it would slow the process down to much and there isn't the room for a conveyor belt for it anyway

JOINT STATEMENT BETWEEN ROYAL MAIL AND THE CWU COVERING THE INVESTMENT IN ADDITIONAL MATERIALS HANDLING EQUIPMENT IN RDC’s
Dear Colleagues
Branches and representatives will recall that as a result of significant increases in parcel growth in 2016 the business decided to invest in additional Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) for the RDC network and a Joint Statement was endorsed to support the activity (LTB 311/16 refers).
The trend in Tracked Parcel volume growth is forecasted to continue into the 2017/18 financial year and as such the business consider that given the volume growth to date, the anticipated future growth in Tracked parcels and the service specification, that additional investment in MHE for RDC’s is required.
The business’ proposal will see 7 additional powered conveyors, without volumetric capabilities, deployed across the six sites listed below:
PRDC (x1)
NWRDC (x1)
NDC (x2 in order to realise extra processing capacity)
SWRDC (x1)
YDC (x1)
SDC (x1)
The deployment activity is anticipated to commence from the 2nd October and conclude by the 3rd November 2017.
Discussions have therefore taken place with the business and attached for your information is the Joint Statement to facilitate this activity, which has been agreed and endorsed by the Postal Executive.
Colleagues will note that it has been agreed that provision is made for full CWU involvement and that the activity will be overseen by the Parcel Automation Joint Working Group. Any revised duty arrangements required to accommodate this growth activity will be negotiated in line with the IR Framework.
In the view of the department the investment represents a significant commitment to our RDC Network and growth in the upstream areas of the business, which we believe will be welcomed by our members in RDC’s.
