Strictly speaking they can sue you for any damages they can prove plus compensation i.e. you leave without notice and they have to make arrangements to cover your work. Although the amount they pay out in wages/overtime might be the same as it was to you, they can claim costs & compensation for the hassle of having to do so and the potential disruption it caused.
The chances of them doing this are zero as it would cost more to do it than they would recover.
To answer the OP's question, I'm pretty certain they will want you to work the full notice period as anything less causes more work for them. Make sure you put your notice in writing giving a final date that you choose. If you agree to any different arrangements then make sure you get it in writing e.g. longer/shorter period of notice. It sounds like they're already taking advantage of your good will so be prepared to be squeezed even harder....or you could say no and just do the job you were contracted to do.

you apply online to any other office that has vacancies and within 4 weeks your transfered.
he cant hold you to ransom, only niggle is you need to do 6 months in current office then you can transfer, once transfered if the new office is shite then you can do the same 6 months later.

Your absolutely Right. But you still have to weigh up the Pros and Cons and in this case there is the potential to loose nearly £1400. However the other job is 4 days on 4 days off. Having a daughter of school age and a Wife that works most Saturdays until late if I am working a Saturday . I find other than periods of leave its impossible to get more than say 24 hours continuous off to do anything. Long Weekends the Wife Works Saturday Until 7 and the kid has to be back in School on the Monday.
Its a question of Work Life balance so I suppose you cant have your cake and eat it and £1400 is a price worth paying. I don't suppose there is any way that if enough people in a DLO got together you could have a group that worked Wallingtons. The job would be perfect as far as I m concerned then!
I know I come across as a bit of a moaner!!!! But I ve been doing jobs that involve working Saturdays for over 30 years and I ve just had enough of it.

F'k I could cry. I've sent the Union in there, it didn't work. It's going to be more than six weeks, if at all. I've just written my resignation letter.
It's all verbal so far, is there any paperwork I can submit?

If you want out tell them this " Fed up with the relentless pressure caused by increasing workloads and poor management sorry for saying this if the truth hurt's" put this in your letter I am sure they will wave any claim and just end your contract and not hound you anymore.
Why do managers have to be such arseholes? When I started with RM years ago I had the utmost respect for my managers,we were treated with respect always please and thankyou. When I left I had not one bit of respect for either of my managers,I dont think please and thankyou were in their vocabulary,only how to bully and intimidate their staff.

My day today? I looked at the Dispo, saw what I had on it, booked four hours in overtime each day at other Offices.
Walked in, did my early, at 9 briefed the Dom, turns out Dom had a different expectation for me this week. I've still got to take out my Trainee on his walk [did I mention that I've only been doing this job less than nine months, I'm PT, and I've got a Trainee!? That's a compliment. As I tell the Trainee: the golden rule is that the job must get done and there must be no complaints by the end of the day], Oh and there's no time now to get my Dispo listed walk covered on overtime.... So I take out the Trainee, then I do my booked four hours on OT because I commitment's a commitment. Then I take out my own walk. Delievry's not delivery until you've been delivering at 9pm with two full bags around your neck [cos it's faster]. Some point during the day I overhear the other bloke's talking: they can't wait for me to leave `cos then the trainee will see how thing's are supposed to be done.... its not like I asked to have the Trainee, I'm not getting a Leadership allowance [which nobody believes], and as I openly admit : I've only been doing the job five minutes and I'm not the coach.
