Royal Mail worker shortages blamed for North Swindon Christmas card delivery delays

POSTAL worker shortages have left Christmas cards undelivered, it has been claimed.

Scores of cards were not delivered to the SN25 postcode area in the run up to Christmas.

A source at the Royal Mail’s Dorcan mail office blamed the problem on postal chiefs failing to employ enough relief postal workers over the festive period.

The affected SN25 postcode area includes Haydon Wick, Greenmeadow, Redhouse, Oakhurst and Blunsdon.

The Royal Mail worker told the Adver: “There will be people in North Swindon who didn’t get their Christmas cards in time because Royal Mail didn’t want to spend more on staff on Christmas Eve.

“SN25 is a big postcode area and it’s expanding very fast.”

In response, Royal Mail said they had recruited “many” staff members for the busy Christmas and New Year period.

A spokeswoman said: “Royal Mail has been extremely busy with the Christmas mail bag, which started before Black Friday.

“We have recruited many staff over the Christmas period in Swindon mail centre as we normally do.

“Mail which was posted up to the last posting dates has been delivered locally and mail is now being processed and sorted for normal deliveries tomorrow.”

It's like saying we hired extra cooks to do the peas when there weren't enough chefs to prepare the Turkeys.

More likely to do with the tight restriction on resources and lack of morale in delivery.

My local DO had extra staff in, don't know if it was down to DOMs or area managers as to which DOs (if any) get extra staff

I've been at our delivery office for 14 Christmas' and never, not once have I seen any extra relief staff in for Christmas.
