Which Mail Centre?wheresourmoney wrote:Was anyone else promised job and finish on sat as a gesture of good will, we were, and got screwed big time. People came in early, worked through there meal breaks, and ran round only to be told when they got back that our mail centre had failed on 160,000 items and while we were out on del the lorries had turned up at all offices in our area codes, apparently the doughnuts who work on forcasting for royal mail predicted that this week would be very light, so the managers at the mail centre sent home all the casual staff a week early.,we spent the next 2 hours plus sorting until our finish time, so it looks like next week will be all about catch up, when will we ever learn not to believe.

If they say it's black then it's white etc - never believe anything they tell you.
If they say job and finish - then it's not.

I never trust manager anymore no matter how small.
If they give it to me in black and white I’ll accept a deal

Feel sorry for the OP but trust and respect are earned and are easily lost sometimes forever hope this is a lesson we can all learn from someone's misfortune but no one died but the real tragedy is the lack of human dignity and respect for all under royalmails empire!

Surely if there's a local agreement to come in early then you take it off the end.
We have had a few instances over the years where we have changed our hours with a whole office agreement. We all start 30min early so we all finish 30min early.
If you want to skip a break and expect to finish earlier than that them it is a little naive because most of the time it's out of you DOMs hands if a load of extra mail comes in.
But if your finish time is 2 and as an office you've agreed to come in 30mins early then your new finish time is 130. Seems to be a bit more to this than meets the eye.
For example we've had instances where people have been asked to do a bit of sorting or something in the promise of an earlier finish and no lapsing. Then lapsing has been cancelled anyway because it was busier than expected. They felt cheated but it was just unfortunate. But a whole office agreement is different

Our Saturday was great, mail centre stitched us big time, Not a cat in hells chance of finishing early, so went around at normal pace, finished on time and left all management with dozens of packets to still go out.
Yes it would have been nice to finish early but there was absolutely no chance it was going to happen

When will people ever learn. Okay this deal was struck but then things went pear shaped due to the mail center failing, so did you think the DOM was still going to let you all go early with work still to do? You have a time to start work and a time to finish work, stick to them and you wont be disappointed.

Me personally would have told the manager that due to him telling you it was job and finish on that day you have now made plans and it is too short notice to change it now so you would be going home.
What could he do about it? Nothing, thats what

I wouldn't be too upset, because every bad experience is a lesson learned. When somebody reneges on a verbal agreement, they have proven themselves to be without honour. Remember this, remind yourself of it, and be sure to remind others in future when they try and pull a stunt like this. I'm guessing they didn't do it out of the goodness of their hearts, either.

We must be in the minority then. We were promised an early finish and we got it. Finished midday on saturday.
