Which job in RM is the tougher over Christmas
For me its not straight forward.
Physical hard work has to go to the foot postie and then the rural driver postie.
However that is just hard work and not stressed. For stress i would say the counter staff take first place esp when managers scan tracked items as docket lefts when there's no chance they are going out on delivery that day.

Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

So true, comparing any other job in the business with doing a van share is an insult!!

Try working in the callers office.
I have done all the jobs mentioned except management,
The callers office is the worst by a country mile.

I would rather do my 5+ hour delivery with hct than work in the callers at the moment. Nightmare job at this time of year

Xmas is easiest time of year in my DO
I think busy days in summer when still try to lapse are worse

DOM is probably the most stressful job over Xmas and maybe generally as well with all the s*** coming down from upper RM management.
In terms of time and physical work a single rural van delivery is probably the most work.
Shared van duty can be fairly easy especially if you have additional posties to do your parcels. But if not it can be really bad
Callers office. A lot of hanging about, surfing the net, and listening to music/YouTube.

Callers office is a piece of piss, I always catch the f***ers on Facebook whilst they are making people wait for their parcels on the counter.
IMO nothing worst than a long ass HTC duty heavy AF walking up and down hills. Especially when you know your pals are already in the pub and you still got half your walk to go.

Of the jobs I've done, caller's office is the worst. Delivery is hard graft, but that's all it is. You just get on with delivering and the time passes in its own way. Caller's office work is the conflict between the parts when you have too much time, and nothing to fill it with, and the parts where you have not enough time, and too much to fill it with. Your colleagues are mysteriously absent, there's a queue out the door, and you've looked everywhere for this packet but it's just not there - either where it should be, or anywhere else for that matter.

You need to transfer to my office then. Today the HCT duties were finished between 12.30 and 1.00 (3.00 finish time here) and the shared vans were all out until gone 2.30 (some went over) and most didn't take parcels because we had relief parcel duties in place. The HCTs are ridiculously easy in my DO.South_London_Postie wrote:Callers office is a piece of piss, I always catch the f***ers on Facebook whilst they are making people wait for their parcels on the counter.

I never liked working in the Callers at Xmas. We would get queues out the door and round the street and then you get one awkward guy who's got the biggest grudge ever against Royal Mail because his parcel had gone missing and there's already been some sort of paper trail with customer services
Much prefer being out on deliveries.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

The stress factor is a red herring, there's stress in all the roles and it comes from the same place but it only affects you if you let it. In the callers you can only serve one customer at a time, in Customer service you can only deal with one call at a time, in processing you can only sort what you can sort and in deliveries you can only do what you can do.
What causes that stress in all of those roles wears a Primark shirt and knows a great deal less about the job than you, learn to smile and wave and just do your thing.
