Can see Pro's and Con's for striking before or after Christmas. Ultimately do we strike before to give royal fail a big bloody nose and leave ourselves open to a media frenzy of ruining all those little kiddies Christmas. Or do we play it safer on the general public side of things and strike asap in January which will still be busy with Boxing day sale purchases and the start of the January sales plus the increase in mail we normally get. Either way royal fail shareholders do not want a strike in any capacity as it'll eat in to their dividend payments. As for royal fail management well that remains to be seen if they're deliberately pushing the CWU in to striking to break them once and for all.

There won’t be a strike before christmas imo as the CWU know it will be a very devisive issue and many staff won’t go out which will severely weaken our hand with RM

There timescales for the mediation process meant that strikes before Christmas were never possible once the injunction had been granted. Those that implied otherwise were being disingenuous at best and plain dishonest at worst.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

This week, at last, hopefully we will see an indication in the LTB on how the mediators report has changed anything in progressing a resolution. We can speculate if a strike in October or Pre-Xmas would have influenced RM to make a settlement already or, by being prevented in taking IA, the CWU have managed to secure a deal on the basis of the overwhelming ballot result & ultimate threat of IA.

Sugar, striking is a last resort. Yes, we should be ready and willing to strike, but only if negotiations do not achieve a compromise (because neither side is going to get things entirely their own way).
Striking to give Royal Mail a bloody nose also bloodies our noses, too. For surely some big customers and hard-won contracts would be lost if we cannot reach a negotiated settlement.
Forget about the public, for whilst their support is welcome, their infrequent spending on postage doesn't contribute much revenue, in percentage terms. This was the case when I joined the business, and is even more so now.

A strike before Christmas would have focused minds where as after if we go on strike it would not do so but regardless when it is the company will lose business and contracts but this must be weighed by our determination for a fair deal for all the workers and not the few shirkers at the top!

I agree striking is a last resort but having been through this merry dance on a number of occasions you can see that royal mail we're banking:

a) on a poor ballot turnout

b) an even poorer turnout if or when strikes are called

The company hierarchy need to find out how disillusioned the workforce has become and if that means giving them a bloody nose then so be it. Contracts can be gotten back but the health and wealth of those who are really carrying this company cannot.

Ever been to a restaurant and had lousy service, or dodgy food? Did you go back? Exactly!
