Alright everyone? How's it going.
I joined a few days ago for a lurk around but now I'll write my first post, I've applied to be a postie in my local town and my last email was to ask me for a photo of my face for a badge (so presumably all is going well at this point)
It's a provisional offer of 6 months, is that the norm? I presumed it was a permanent job but that has made me worry a tad.
Anyway, I look forward to reading posts and contributing to this forum.
See you all around!

Yes the 6 months Temporary contract is fairly standard for Royal Mail these days. As long as you stick it out, make no really stupid mistakes (such as dumping or stealing mail) you contract will be extended.
There is a current agreement with RM and the Union that after 2 years you should be made permanent. However, most get offered that before the 2 years is up.
Hours are usually quite short as in 20 - 25 hours, but in most offices, there is an opportunity to work overtime nearly every day.

Ah cheers TrueBlueTerrier! That's a little weight off my mind. I think they've said it's a 30 hour contract but I'm not afraid of overtime so I'll certainly top my hours up a bit. The actual job sounds like the sort of job I'd like with it being outside and that, although I am fully aware it'll be tough to begin with!
