Amazon parcels could be delivered by bus under a radical proposal to tackle congestion.

Go-Ahead, the capital’s largest bus operator, is considering opening up depots as parcel delivery hubs and even using its fleet to deliver goods around the city.

Chief executive David Brown said the company was “always looking at ways to maximise assets and build new partnerships, including with logistics providers”.

He added: “Using our vehicles and depots to reduce congestion helps both our passengers and other road users.”

The plan follows a spike in the number of white van journeys, attributed to the boom in online shopping, which has been partially blamed for London’s growing congestion.

Transport for London estimates that up to 60 per cent of deliveries to central London offices are personal packages.

Mayor Sadiq Khan said in his most recent draft transport proposal: “Many van and lorry trips could be avoided or re-timed if freight and servicing activity were better consolidated.”

The mayor has aimed for a 10 per cent reduction in van and lorry use during the morning rush hour by 2026.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
