Newbie - wanting to be quicker!

Post by DRM »

Hi all. I've been a newbie for about 3 weeks. Loving it. Outside, walking and mainly on my own suits me perfectly!
I'd like to be a bit quicker at my round. I've learnt my route, and little walk ways to cut down time.
Any other tips would be great. I know I will be slower than people who have worked there for longer tho. Plus I don't want to rush and get things wrong! Thanks.

It'll come naturally, don't try to force it or you'll make mistakes or worse, have an accident.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Thank you. That's one thing I'm conscious of. Don't want to rush but feel I'm slow, just not sure why or where!

You might want to be "a bit quicker" but it's best NOT to doorstep parcels, sign for packets yourself, leave gate open, exceed the speed limit, etc. to achieve that. :no no

It's mostly about organization. Get it right beforehand and things speed up.

Simple things like always put the spine up on your D2Ds.

Put as much as you can in your bundle so you don't have to reach into your bag.

Pack your packets in order so you can reach into your bag and pull out the correct one without even looking.

It's the small things that make the difference.

Make full use of your cargo pockets! PDA in one side leg pocket, 739 cards in the other along with a pen or two, and after awhile you can reach down without even thinking, as you get to a door, instead of rummaging about in your bag for everything. Then replace everything an move on.

Thank you all. Unfortunately I haven't been supplied full uniform yet but using my own clothes that have lots of pockets - but two cargo pockets would be so much easier!

You might be told that speed limits don't apply to our vans because it's the Queen's mail but that no longer applies since we've been privatised. :thumbdown

Never go anywhere twice, particularly this time of year when we have loads of oversized parcels. There's always a few double ups on parcels, recoded letters and specials. Wastes time knocking on a door you've already delivered to, plus you look a bit of a div going somewhere you have been 10 minutes previously with an oversized. Saves lugging stuff about needlessly to.

There's usually no time for attempting delivery to neighbours, especially this time of year. :thumbdown
