Xmas is a joke on delivery
We got the same message at our office. It appears by allowing people to start 30 mins early will be enough to cope with the Christmas pressure without any OT being paid at the end of the day. LOL

Are the staff agreeable doing the 2-7 parcel duties? They can't be compelled to change their hours of I remember the agreement from last year. There is a Xmas agreement they trot out each year that those wanting full time hours can do parcel deliveries late on mon - fri with a shift allowance. The screws obviously by pass this as they want peeps to work Saturdays too and cheat them out of shift payments. Plus the availability of vans and PDAs makes the whole thing a non starter anyway so you have to ask yourself: which fuckwits came up with this unworkable proposal in the first place?eastie wrote:At WTL this morning DOM states we have no extra vans over Christmas and originally they were getting all the zero contract 25 hour staff to do 2pm till 7pm delivering parcels.
But there is a problem .......... delivery staff will not be finishing their rounds by 2 pm

The DOM, its all the zero contract employees that are doing the 2 till 7 as all the full timers didn't want to lose their duties during christmasSir Henry wrote:Are the staff agreeable doing the 2-7 parcel duties? Last year the early starters were the posties who get in early every day they just got in a little earlier and got paid, by the time the rest of us started work they had prepped half of their walks i will join them this year if it goes unchecked.krussel wrote:We got the same message at our office. Last year CWU and RM agreed to a scoping exercise where volunteers who worked late parcel delivery shifts were to be given an allowance depending upon their finishing times. I will try and find it.

if, as has been mentioned elsewhere that, the Xmas agreements have gone tits up due to Royal Fail not wanting area reps input on pretty much anything, the 2017 scoping exercise may not come to fruition. Last year the mon-fri late parcels delivery shift attracted an allowance from £22- ? depending if you finished at 20:00 or later. The 2017 scoping exercise is almost identical to 2016 and that includes the absence of any mention of a shift allowance. I did come across this quote though.

lino been around our office this week telling the part time staff 'the only way you will get full time hours this year is if you do a 6 day parcel duty working 2-8 Monday to Friday and 10-5.30 sat'
Is this really what it has come too? Trying to scaremonger folk into working unsociable hours. its not even like there is any incentive attached. Last year they back shift parcel duties at least got Mon-Fri. They think we are that daft we will jump at it too for the extra hours. The reality is the office would come to a stand still as we currently cant clear daily at the moment with most part timers getting full time. Parcels left lying from Sat, and mail being cut off dailly.
Your manager is wrong. The National Scoping Agreement for late deliveries at Christmas signed by Gary Burgess for Royal Mail and Mark BAULCH who is covering for Bob GIBSON states these duties will be Monday - Friday for four weeks. You will also attract a late shift allowance of around £23 per week.
The reason why Royal Mail want late deliveries is they do not want to hire vans and the CDVs can be used in the evenings on parcel deliveries. When I started some delivery times were considered unsocial hours. Let's remember we are opposing Royal Mail''s move to a 9-5 attendance time which is very social in terms of times but not very popular with current employees !

From what I remember from last year it was £22+ for a 20:00 finish and more for later, I seem to recall £40+ for 22:00 was mentioned.
If anyone actually received these allowances or got the Saturdays off i don't know as my attempts to get clarification on these aspects and more drew a blank at the time. I believe that the screws didn't fancy sticking to the mon-fri/shift allowance bits of the agreement and adopted a pick and choose attitude to what applied and didn't.

Yep you’d think it was the first xmas they’d had to cope with, after 36 years I just get on with it and brace myself for what ever penny pinching plan they come up with,we have a few who are coming in early sorting for 45 mins, they are welcome to it,it’s not for me,they don’t offer it the rest of the year and I’m certainly don’t want it my days long enough thanky, but as ever there will be those that are happy to do it,

I've heard that in our office, lapsing/absorption will continue in December (though "overweights" will go out on separate parcel rounds for the month). Last year, absorption did stop for December (as well as separate rounds for overweights), but still carried on for the other 11 months. How many other offices have gone over to 12 months a year, 6 days a week absorbing?

They can want absorption 12 months year. If I have time to do it before my finish time it gets done. If not it doesnt.goneaway wrote:I've heard that in our office, lapsing/absorption will continue in December (though "overweights" will go out on separate parcel rounds for the month). Anyone else been hammered with households next week. Some of our walks have 6 including 2 thickish magazines and 2 separate envelopes with pens in. How the hell are you going to get that lot into your bags with all the packets. If you are on P&L then it’s not going to be feasible for the driver to keep dropping you extra bags as he will have his own loops plus big packets to do.Whoever has accepted these is either incredibly thick or is on a wind up. All this sort of thing does is lessen any goodwill that people have left. Can see lots of problems in our office with this next week.

Apparantly part timers will be getting made up to full time, by them going out first thing in the morning and delivering packets from 7am! Isn't that a bit too early in the morning to be delivering to recipients?
