Just do your best with the tools provided and if it is a safety issue refuse. Speak to the manager and just do as he tells you.

Do not use your own car. RM have to get you from your parent office and back again within your duty time. Above all when you arrive at the new office act like a complete numpty, do the job properly and cut off. You will not be asked again.

If you were hired as an Area Reserve (there were a few) then they may be right.
However, if you have applied for and got a regular duty then its possible that you should be able to claim mileage or get a van. You may need to bite the bullet and speak to the Union (Local or Area).
The relevant agreement is a few lines in the Flexibility Agreement which is in downloads, also there are plenty of threads on "Working in Other Offices" view them and build your case.
Good luck, and perhaps you've learned from this instance that just because we slate managers doesn't mean that we are bad guys, we may just be looking out for the less well informed.

Management should not be questioned till the s**t hits the fan and it has by the sounds of this but why should we take the view that any of this will not happen to us if WALK OWNERSHIP IS ALLOWED TO HAPPEN next they will be charging us a weeks wages for not coming in for one day off even if it was agreed before hand!

Do not use your personal vehicle to travel to other offices unless it is covered for in your car insurance policy. You can refuse to drive your own vehicle on these terms, then they have to provide you with transport.

The OPs point is that the vans are knackered and that there are no vans or PDAs - is that not an issue with supply. Now who's responsible for the supply of Royal Mail equipment - Managers!!
We are fast approaching our busiest time of year and its great to see everything working just like clockwork

As TBT has said were you hired as an area reserve? What did the original job advert say? I've had a quick look at my original jobnuns wrote:I've keep getting told can't claim anything , and they don't need to supply van as your cover for the area .

advert description and the jobs being currently advertised and both say "Postperson at such and such DO, delivering mail and parcels
to houses and businesses within a set area", so to me that means you can deliver mail to any round in that office.
If they want to send you to a different office then as I understand it and as the more experienced posties have said
you're entitled to transport/mileage allowance from the office you were hired to work at and travel time in working time.

You don't need a PDA
I have not been able to log onto mine till about 1330, so its been a very long epod nightmare day, just about managed to finish on time and handed the card into the callers office with about 35 scans for them to load onto the system.
