Checks!
Well, about the checks - good God! I can speak from authority: I am having my history checked with a fine tooth comb: I'm having to sit at home while my credentials are being checked out: the whole process of becoming a postman/woman these days takes months - I originally applied on the 15th of last month! I'm not complaining: the Royal Mail has a standard to meet. Believe me though, postwomen/men are checked. Plus, there's the old thing about 'human nature': most people are basically honest.janus wrote:yes Nelson I am doing something about it. To make a further point which I may not have made clear in my last post, I certainly do not tar you all with the same brush. My postie couldn't be any more friendly and others in the past. I am pointing the finger at the sorting office bosses...do they really know what is going on? or who they are employing? I take it checks are done etc? As with all jobs there are the idiots that spoil it all for everyone else..but this has happened twice to me in under a year...so how big is the problem on a national scale??
Thank you for your advice.

Re: better employees
I am still in the application process: I have so far had three tests and two interviews and am still waiting while my references for the past five years of employment are checked out. Plus, I input everything on line, i.e. using the internet. Some of the tests were very difficult.dongash wrote:you can tell they are running royal mail down by the standard of person they now employ! before you get on my back, let me explain. when i joined r.m i had numerous interviews, tests, and even had to sign the official secrets act! i had to put my mothers maiden name, and was asked if any of my family had been in trouble with the law! when checks like this are no longer done then it is inevitable that thieves etc will get through the system. regards dongash opg macclesfield sk![]()

I wonder how many other so called 'unskilled jobs' have a process of tests, interviews, vetting etc, not many I bet. I wonder what the online test is like compared to the old pen & paper ones.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Well, firstly, being a blue collar Royal Mail worker is not unskilled: from what I have been able to see from the posts on this site, you have a very rich culture, and are emotionally intelligent and have very specific skills: it's just that as you have been doing the job for so long, you might not recognise it. I've watched the YouTube videos and read your posts and you all seem to have a very specific skill set. So, in my books, you are all highly skilled.k66yla wrote:I wonder how many other so called 'unskilled jobs' have a process of tests, interviews, vetting etc, not many I bet. The online test is good fun - but not too easy in the second part: you could try and have a go here:

Remember - accuracy is important!
Let me know how it squares with the paper equivalent!

Crozier & Leighton have refered to us as unskilled workers, the press picked up on it aswell. I don't class myself or my colleagues as unskilled.

we have just come back from holiday and my mum had her suitcase opened and the perfume and aftershave that was wrapped in gift paper was stolen. does that mean all baggage handlers are thieves? no it means we have scum in society in all walks off life. thieves are thieves chop their hands off they will not do it again.

Those two buffoons have a nerve, I mean, they aren't particularly "skilled", are they? ............ Still manage to get paid top dollar though.k66yla wrote:Crozier & Leighton have refered to us as unskilled workers, the press picked up on it aswell. Let's hope there is more benefit in not having those fragrant items...stubaby wrote:we have just come back from holiday and my mum had her suitcase opened and the perfume and aftershave that was wrapped in gift paper was stolen. does that mean all baggage handlers are thieves? no it means we have scum in society in all walks off life. thieves are thieves chop their hands off they will not do it again.
It reminds me about the first time I went on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia: well, as you may know, there are millions of people there. I took my new Hush Puppies to wear. I put them on a shoe rack and went into the mosque and they had been stolen when I returned to collect them: I laughed my head off! Why? I had a serious case of athletes foot at the time!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope that cheers you up a bit.
It is true: as long as there have been peeps on the Earth, there have been light fingered ones, too!
