Apparently RM's submission to the mediator runs to over 200 pages. She then has the CWU one to contend with.
Unless she is a speed reader she will need more time to read the submissions and formulate any proposals.
Who decides if she can have more time?

Will Terry push the nuclear button and call strikes as soon as is humanly possible?
Will RM make a pay offer before xmas to placate the revolting hordes?
I think RM may offer an unconditional lump sum payment before Christmas, they've done it before and it's good PR. Possibly £200 pro-rata with another £200 when the deal is ratified. The talks will continue beyond Christmas.

A big turd.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The pension solution will look like this.

The pension situation is far too complex to resolve in the timescale we are dealing with therefore...

Royal Mail will agree to extend the current pension provision until 2019.
The CWU will agree to decouple the pension talks from the current dispute.
That gives both parties 18 months to polish the giant turd.

Fish tank so you are saying RM might say £200 now and £200 after agreement on pay deal?.
Would we accept a two year pay deal of 3 per cent say plus a pension of 15 per cent from the RM with anyone joining after 2008 on 10 per cent. The pension needs not to be touched again for over ten years would like twenty years protection. No to later starts.

The union notice board was awash with LTU's and almost daily updates etc,but since RM won the legal high ground, not so much as a sentence on what's going on!
It's almost like a forgotten war,anyone got anything?Dingo?

Because there is nothing to update. :Very Happy

What has happened up to now is that both parties have submitted their position papers to the Mediator. Both sides are now waiting for the Mediators report. Then, when that has happened, hopefully, progress will be made and information will be forthcoming.

"The CWU have made it clear that the clock is ticking on the mediation process and in line
with the provisions set out in the AfG Agreement we expect a summary report from the
Mediator with final recommendations to be produced within 4 weeks of her appointment."

So that will be Monday 20th November.... "Expect" being the operative word. "Within" meaning not beyond 4 weeks I assume.

Clash Royal Mail’s submission was 13 pages plus and executive summary. The CWUs much bigger .

We are in the 3rd week of the mediation process and have met twice. The mediator has met with both the CWU and RM’s pension advisors.

Remember the CWU are in the mediation process under duress and as a result of the High Court Decision. It is not the CWU who needs to make a move in the talks it is Royal Mail as they went to court to get an injunction.

The mediators has a tough job as talks have been going on for months and she has 4 weeks to try and get both sides to agreement or both sides to agree to extend.

However at present Royal Mail have presented the same proposals as what caused the massive yes vote in the strike action ballot.

Unless they make a move this week or next than the mediator has to produce recommendations which is not binding to either side and can be rejected as a whole or in parts and then the final last two weeks of talks kick in and unless there is agreement the CWU can announce strike action and give 2 weeks notice.

The pressure is on Royal Mail why go to court if you are going to continue to pedal the same proposals ?

Why is Moya and Sue Whalley now leading the talks ? They will look very poor to the shareholders if there involvement still leads to a strike ?

So the CWU are still in a strong position , Royal Mail needs to either move on the issues in dispute or there will be a strike

So no real progress at all, despite the mutterings from Moya that she is really determined/committed to reach agreement with the CWU?

Delaying tactics?

Perhaps the strategy is to provoke the CWU to call all members to arms (the gates) at Christmas time? knowing that 2/3 thirds of members won't entertain it?

It does not sound promising (IMHO)..

Hopefully i'm completely wrong :nervous

Thanks for the update Dingo.

Thanks for the update Dingo.
What makes you think two thirds of the membership wouldn't strike at Christmas?
I'd expect a small percentage to work, for various reasons, but I think the majority know that the cost would be far greater in the long term if they don't make a stand now, however painful that may be.
same as it ever was...

If the union seriously doesn't know the answer to this, I question the intelligence of our leaders.
