I went to a RM briefing today for Mgt & Reps, which is for Reps to try and sell the deal.
Under flexibility proposals, posties could have their duties changed by +- 30 mins but also they could be moved to another office.
I had the audacity to suggest that if you want a level playing field to find out how much flexibility you could get in the offices, The C.W.U & RM should announce a joint initiative to get everyone to "Do The Job Properly".
The look I got from the 2 Admin staff running the show was priceless. :confused :arrrghhh

Ha ha I can well believe it.When we started doing the job properly the area manager accused us of unofficial industrial action, they know they would be doomed if everybody stopped the cars on delivery. What gets me is these idiots running round trying to finish early, using their cars etc, will be moaning their bollocks off when they are having to cover walks in future.I've given up trying to get this to sink into their micro brains

That has actually happened to one Postman who was forced by the Management to use his car and he had a crash and was off work for a while, the management soon washed their hands of him, It was featured in the CWU magazine a while ago.

Was that the lad with the broken pelvis and goodness knows what else? I remember that article. It should have been a warning to anyone else, but it's the old 'it will never happen to me' syndrome.

Tommo! I'll see your 'hope it happens to them' and raise you a 'head through the windscreen, no ambulance because of the NHS cutbacks, critical list, and an inteview with the IB when they regain consciousness over the five bags of mail the local chavs have run off with from the boot of the car!'

the one and the same, must have been under enormous pressure from the screws to do, I wouldn't do so, in fact I would point out the legalities and consequences etc that should make them pause for abit.

To: Dave Joyce
CWU National HS&E Officer

Dear Dave,

Subject: Re: Bedford DO – Agency Worker Arrested in Connection with Illegal and Unsafe Use of a Private Car on Delivery:

Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention. I have obviously delayed my response so that I could clarify the facts of the situation. My understanding from the information I have received has led me to conclude the following:

• the agency worker received the relevant health & safety briefing
• on the day in question he was instructed by the manager that he would be accelerated to his delivery point in a designated vehicle along with a number of other individuals
• he decided unilaterally to leave ahead of this time by his own means, without informing the manager
• we have taken appropriate follow-up action regarding the individual concerned
• we have further strengthened our induction arrangements in the area.

I trust this clarifies, and in particular around some of the assumptions which appear to have been made on this matter.

Regards
Ian Stockdale
