You can't refuse as it would come under the as directed, but if a Coach is free to train I would certainly involve the Rep, as it would be a waste of money and resources.

Yes there is a daily training allowance and anyone who trains others when WPCs can't are entitled to it.

[quote="SpacePhoenix"]Probably the main flaw with WPCs is that generally all DOs (and probably all MCs) are always short on staff so havn't got the capacity to release the WPC to do whatever a WPC is meant to do

Spot on. All WPC duties should be done in duty time. But getting release time to do any of it is a different matter

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Surely you need to be trained in the correct way to train before you can undertake any training of new entrants?

In our office they have a list of jobs that the managers consider as "training jobs". However they do not have WPC's on any of these jobs. A new start will spend 1 day with a WPC if they are lucky and then be put onto one of the "training jobs" to be trained properly by regular postie's, who are expected to do this for free.
We even have 1 WPC who doesn't drive and therefore doesn't take any people out to train, and he is the union rep.
In essence the idea of a WPC is good, however by what I have read on here it is not being utilised correctly.
