Not involved in rehab plan

I have a member starting back tomorrow after being sick with foot problems. He hasn’t heard from occupational health and hasn’t been involved in the rehab plan to start back to work. Management have made a plan for him and expect him to walk for 2 hours, he has told me he won’t be able to walk and thought he would be coming back doing indoor work. Can they make him do outdoor walking.

They can only ask. Only he knows how his body is feeling. It's a funny thing, because if he gets hurt, after not having rehab etc, it will be his fault. If he attempts what they're asking, and to avoid further injury, gives up, then at least he tried. After that, I'd say he definitely needs to get to rehab. Cross the t's and dot the i's. He should really have gone the rehab route first, as it's better to play the atos game and c your a.

Thanks for you’re reply, what I mean is management have gone ahead and made a plan without him agreeing to it, he has gone through occupational health, but they haven’t contacted him to check he can do it.

Just to clarify. If he hasn’t been told he’s expected to walk, and hasn’t been given a plan then he shouldn’t go out on a walk and can refuse to do so. In line with Royal Mail I’ll health policy, is that right. Thank you

its a big NO NO ohs should be sorting him a back to work plan with his involvement in what he can and cant do , managers aren't medically qualified to do any of this s**t , they tried this with me , I had a knee op and returned to work with a plan from ohs but the dim knew best and put me back on full delivery so i did a week and went back on sick with pain again , another 6 weeks later I went back and funny enough I did 4 weeks indoor and a phased delivery for another 4 weeks which ohs suggested in the first place ,

oh and you can also get your area h&s rep involved as well if you want.

OHS Generally seem to have a set rehab plan for all ailments and injury. I found i had little to no chance of influencing what that plan was.

You haven't mentioned what his GP fit note stated by any endorsements his GP has advised on him returning to work. I have also heard that RM and OH Assist have had a fall out but someone may have more current information on this subject.
