Dozens of boy racers are making people's lives miserable with noisy late-night race meets at a Royal Mail depot
They've also been letting off fireworks until the early hours according to residents
Residents say boy racers are ruining their lives with late night races near their Cardiff homes.
For a number of years cars have been using the depot in Llanishen as a starting point for races.
But now the problems are getting worse.
The groups are now using fireworks – in what is thought to be a signal that the races have begun – which is causing further concern for people living in the area.
One resident said there have been races for a number of years but now they are more frequent and causing more disruption.
There can be around 20 cars meeting, usually at or near the Royal Mail depot.
“There have been periods of quiet, usually after we’ve raised them with the police but now they’ve come back. They normally start getting together about 9pm and before it was just a couple of groups. You can hear them tearing up the roads.”
She said they take a route around the industrial estate before heading onto a housing estate. Recently they have been letting fireworks off and then we hear them revving and revving.
“These aren’t small fireworks but with a huge bang. The fireworks are going on until 2.30am or 3am some nights.”
She said many local residents have young families.
“We all have young kids from newborns to nine-year-olds. Our neighbours have dogs which are going berserk – it’s affecting everyone.”
Sergeant Rob Elmer, from Llanishen Neighbourhood Policing, said: “We are aware of concerns regarding parking and traffic issues which is already a PACT priority, and on Sunday night we received a call specifically about cars speeding on the estate and the individuals involved also setting off fireworks.
“We would like to reassure the community that we are increasing patrols on the industrial estate and would encourage members of the public to report any incidents to us and, if possible, make a note of the vehicles involved.”
Royal Mail spokesperson Sally (Our Sal!) Hopkins said: “Royal Mail’s Cardiff North Delivery Office operates from Unit 11 -13 Cheviot Close Cardiff CF14 5XW. This is a site we lease and there are no access restrictions to the areas around the building, which are shared by other units.
"There has been no disruption to our operations and no damage to Royal Mail property or vehicles. If any local residents have concerns about noise disturbances they should contact the police in the first instance.”
