Moya can afford that - her salary more than covers thatdingo wrote:Royal Mail and the CWU have an agreed panel of mediators , however it is normal for Royal Mail to organise the mediators as they pay for them. Mediators do not come cheap around a grand a day plus expenses so that is paid by Royal Mail after all they wanted mediation.

Surely, the aim is to secure the best deal for CWU members - the cost of mediation should therefore be a shared consideration. Oh, I forgot the CWU got landed with RM’s costs for the injunction, so perhaps an unforeseen bill, will hit future member subs. I don’t accept that the CWU should cede ground to RM on the basis that they normally organise mediators. We wan’t the best mediation to support our cause not defer to RM’s ‘chosen’ organisation.
Either the CWU called RM’s bluff on mediation and forced them into time limited talks or they got shafted. I would like to believe the former but the fact that a mediator does not appear to have been appointed within 7 days of the court hearing does not bode well for members.

I think the cwu has played a blinder as the company wasn't interested in talking and they thought they could bullshit the staff with threats about I/a and it doesn't matter if royal mail haven't done anything yet , they now have a set time frame and that's it they cant go running back to the courts AGAIN, the pressure is on them and the the clocks ticking , tick tocknataddick wrote:Surely, the aim is to secure the best deal for CWU members - the cost of mediation should therefore be a shared consideration. I don't know where people are getting the clock's ticking thing from? The clock hasn't even started yet, the process hasn't been tested at this level before and this whole thing can be drawn out for months if need be. The mediation panel will first of all need all relevant documents from both sides and then digest it before talks even begin, the pension issue alone is very complex and could easily eat up a month.
It's time for members to get real, these talks will produce a deal, all serious cards are already on the table, If the time limit is exceeded it will be extended. Whatever emerges at the end will be it for better or worse.

we was told by an area rep the date started from the court injunction 5 weeks , and royal fail have 7 days to seek a mediator , he also said after that the cwu have to give 2 weeks notice if no agreement for I/a after that time , so strikes could be from the 4th December . so is he wrong ? and in these talks we don't get a deal then on the cobbles regardless what month or time of the year it isfishtank wrote:I don't know where people are getting the clock's ticking thing from? That's potentially 8 weeks in total plus 2 weeks notice for industrial action takes you to 10 weeks after the court injunction before you can take industrial action. This requires the appointment of an external Mediator within seven days of the Court ruling and a maximum
of four weeks for the mediation process. The parties must then meet within a week of the
process concluding to decide their response to the Mediators report after which there is a
two week cooling off period
9 weeks from Monday is Christmas day.

so he is wrong then in what we was told ? I think we all need to hear summat from terry or dave ward on this for I/a as I think some members may starting losing there fight , especially if royal fail try to drag it out , which terry pullinger said he wont allow that to happen .fishtank wrote:That's potentially 8 weeks in total plus 2 weeks notice for industrial action takes you to 10 weeks after the court injunction before you can take industrial action. This requires the appointment of an external Mediator within seven days of the Court ruling and a maximum

If we take strike action over the summer then more of us will be on holiday and less of us will lose money.
It will also put a spoke in the plans to increase lapsing over the quieter summer weeks.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It would be a huge mistake to strike over Christmas as it wouldn't be well received by the public.
January is still quite busy and would keep the British public on our side as we won't have spoiled anyone's Christmas.
