Regarding pushing delivery times back in the day;
RM is keen to employ part-timers because it gives them a 'flexible' work force at a minimum cost base. They can exploit, sorry, utilise this as it suits them at minimum expense.
There are people on part-time contracts because that's all they could get at the time but, in my own experience, many choose to work part-time because it suits other things in their lives. The finish times are often crucial to this being acceptable. Do you really want to sit around twiddling your thumbs until 11am before starting knowing that the rest of the day will then be written off?
Same point applies to full timers.
Having the back end of the day for yourself is a major element of making the job acceptable.
If RM want to lose their cheap, exploitable part-time workers then moving the timings is the way to get rid of them.
As for the idea of Sunday working. No way, that's the nail in the coffin for me. It was a very dark day for our society when the Sunday trading regulations were relaxed. And just because some other businesses do it doesn't mean that everyone has to.
A bit less consumerism and a bit more life would be an all round benefit. You work to live not the other way round.

Why do people want to strike
Hey, no change at all would be great, I'd take no change whatsoever. Actually I'd take no change whatsoever plus decent pay rise plus decent pension deal.bmccoll wrote:or have no faith in the union and feel the union has shafted them on many occasionsglfp wrote:parforthewalk wrote:Yes..approximately 9000 in the ballot, voted NO & are therefore happy with everything that RM were proposingelteleltel wrote:No one wants to accept 10-6 surely
a 30 year veteran, and I can assure you that a post 2pm finish is a BIG NO NO!
But you don't actually think that'll happen, surely? 30 years deep and you hoping after all this there'll be no change?
So I'm asking, what would you budge on? Would you take some version of route ownership? Or the pension deal offered before? The pay deal?
We're just talking here. I won't ask you to sign on it or anything.

I was about an hour late delivering today as i was training a new start on delivery. Pretty much everyone said you're running late today. I don't know any customers who'd want to get their mail at 5-6pm
