Complaint Procedures Regarding Working Hours

Post by premium4ya »

Hi All,

I have been working with Angard Staffing for quite a while now. I have noticed that I am being underpaid every time I am having a shift, sometimes one hour less. In the very beginning, I didn't know how to check the number of hours I was paid for. I have sent many emails to the payslip department inquiring about the reason behind these cut, but they stop responding. So I wonder, in that case, what are my options, or what department should I contact, please.

Thanks

When you say underpaid is this after unpaid breaks have been deducted?

Either give Angard a ring it's option 4 for payroll if you ring 0333 240 8502 and they don't take calls on Monday or Tuesday, it may take some time for anybody to answer or next time you are at work ask to see the person who does the time sheets in the book room (if open). They will be able to tell you how the hours are calculated on the timesheets and Angard just pay the hours Royal Mail tell them to. Probably better to speak to the book room first as Angard will contact Royal Mail anyway for confirmation of actual hours worked if they is a query on hours paid.

If it's hours missing that you have worked, take your payslip in question with you and ask to speak to the Mail Center HR Manager so they can check your payslip against the time sheets.
If it's Angards fault , which it usually is , an E-mail from the HR Manager will get it sorted pretty quickly .

Hello,
As an ex-Angardee I have always kept a diary of all my hours worked. My email requests for reimbursement due to underpayment have usually been successful. Here are a few tips:
*Address the email to the SENIOR PAYROLL MANAGER e.g. Dear Sir/Madam...
*Give them your payroll number, pay week, NI number. This gives your email a professional accountant's approach!
*Work out the number of hours you have been underpaid after you have deducted time for meal breaks etc. Your specific mail centre will have their policy about break deductions for various shift lengths
*Calculate the total amount underpaid eg by multiplying the pay rate for that particular shift x number of hours worked. Check against the formal time sheet.
*Send email as high priority

Always address the email to the payroll department of ANGARD STAFFING SOLUTIONS LTD.
Best regards

Thanks to you all for your replies.
Fortunately, I have been keeping a full record of my shifts since my induction shift. And yes, I am underpaid after unpaid breaks have been deducted. For instance, on one shift, I worked 5 hours, the break was half an hour, but I got paid 4 hours only. Last shift I worked 4 hours 20 mins without any break, but they paid me 4 hours only.
I am going to try emailing senior payroll manager before talking to Royal Mail HR.

Thanks & Regards

Hello my friend,
In the above case I think I would claim the following:
4.5h x (pay rate for that particular shift) + 4.33h x (pay rate for that particular shift)=total correct pay for 8.83h
BUT you are actually owed 0.83h of underpaid work since you have been already paid for 4h+4h=8h

Hence you are actually underpaid by approximately 0.83h which is the shortfall or underpayment?
However if in your last shift you worked 4h 20 minutes=4 20/60h=4 &1/3h=4.3333...h and THE TWENTY MINUTES WAS VOLUNTARY AND NOT RM REQUESTED then one can argue both ways. Advice: never overstay unless you have been specifically asked to do so. IF YOU DO MAKE SURE THAT TIMESHEET IS CORRECTED FOR THE RIGHT NUMBER OF HOURS and countersigned by a RM CENTRE MANAGER!

Include all the calculations you make, double check and send to THE SENIOR PAYROLL MANAGER! Every penny counts for zero-hour no contact workers. All the best. Personally l'm glad I'm now fully retired and haven't got the never-ending payslip STRESS.

Thank you very much. It's getting a bit complicated now, I've been checking all the shifts since I started working with Angard. I have noticed that they have been deducted min 30-min break even in those shifts I haven't had any break at all on them. Some did have mentioned in another thread, that in 5 hour shifts, only 15 mins were docked from their payment even when they had 30 min break.
Should I dispute these hours as well?
Thanks&Regards

Yes, I would do. If you had no break and one was deducted, you were underpaid. If RM didn’t give you the break, they are in the wrong, not you. So no harm in disputing it.

One thing I was told by Angard is that if hours are disputed, Angard email RM for verification of hours worked - and if RM fail to respond to Angard after three attempts, Angard go ahead and process payment for the missing hours. I’m not sure how reliable that info is though.

just a few things i can try helping you with

you say you worked 4 hours 20 mins ??? angaard dont do 4 hours 20 min shifts it woulda been 4 hour shift to which you woulda been paid correctly as a 4 hour shift, 4 hours without a break im guessing you stayed behind to push or finish the job if a rm manager asked you 2 then if thats the case the rm manager shoulda altered the timesheet for you if not they gained 20 mins unpaid work from you not angaard

I've been checking all the shifts since I started working with Angard. I have noticed that they have been deducted min 30-min break even in those shifts I haven't had any break at all on them,,,i find this strange as you say you never took a break ?? is this a 8 hour shift to which they allways deduct 30 mins as our breaks are unpaid unlike rm workers and im surprised if your actually working 8 hours straight this is again i would say if true the rm managers fault

I have sent many emails to the payslip department inquiring about the reason behind these cut, but they stop responding,,dont mean to sound funny bear with me but maybe they stopped responding because they know there correct and are trying to end this matter instead of going bk n forth

anyway hope you enjoy still working as a angaard employee true there is faults but theres also good benefits like you deciding if you want to work on any given day or not by just ignoring the texts or phone calls if 1 day you cant be bothered or if you are lucky enough to have another pt job

Actually, that was the only shift came with this number of hours, from 1800 - 2220, and that was the time & number of hours I put down when signed in, we were few in a separate sheet.

That happened in two 4.20-hour shifts, I haven't had any rest break, but 30 mins have been docked off each shift payment. Two 5-hour shifts they have deducted 1 hour from each. Generally, the calculations were right until May, and rest breaks deductions were only 15 mins, after that, they were a total mess.

Yes, you might be right, they might say, "Why this guy is complaining 3 or 4 hours! Doesn't he know he is just a slave? He should be grateful he was [lucky enough] to find a job with [good benefits so he can decide when to work or just ignore the text], let's just neglect him and don't even send him an email to clarify the situation (as any employer who respects his employees would normally do)".
Thanks for your valuable help.

Thank you. That's exactly what's happened. Fortunately, I always put down every shift in my google calendar, so I have date and time, along with any rest break/s time and any work-related notes. So in these two shifts - in particular - I haven't had any rest break at all.
