Same. A few in our office have done the same. It seems to just be in the Vauxhall combi vans though.

I would never leave a van running, you can get sacked for that.

You must be very unfortunate if this was a one off isolated incident and they've observed it and pulled you in about it?
There’s 3 or 4 times a day I talk to customers but I don’t then take my full break as I’d rather talk to someone than sit in my van on my own and in the winter it gets cold with engine off, I know rural is easier than walks in towns but you get tired when you concentrate on the road driving up and down narrow lanes having the Trimble beeb at you mrs. Jones telling you about her husbands opp etc.

Glad to see the manager worrying about 3 minutes,he needs to get out more !,,seriously,,!!! Am sure he can find more important things to worry about, not that long ago we were encouraged to look out for our customers etc it’s nice to have a chat surely,I couldn’t give a stuff how long it takes, bigger problems in many offices than this surely?

Unbelievable.

Do these trimbles track you when the van ignition is off?

Wasting fuel is expensive when you have a big fleet so you can understand the need to tell drivers to turn of if idle for a while. Not sure why stop start is not on most of the vans that solves the problem.

Our newer ones do have stop-start but rather bizarrely the engine stops when you pull the handbrake on but then starts up again when you open the door to get out!!??
So you still have to remove the key from the ignition,

The issue lies in the winter, what if we do want to take a 5 or 10 minute break in the van? We're expected to sit there freezing cold and pissed wet through with the engine turned off and all the windows steaming up?

Just start it up again. Should be taking keys out anyway. Instant dismissal if caught out of van with keys in ignition.

A while back I got out of a van to deliver a parcel and the engine cut out because of the stop-start kicking in. I left the key in the ignition(wrongly I know) and the engine automatically restarted while I was on standing the doorstep waiting for the customer to answer the door.

It was in a quite cul-de-sac and nothing came of it, but it scared the crap out of me. A lesson learned!
