Our next generation of york containers are being introduced into the operation this week.
Designed to work seamlessly with the new parcel sorting machines, the Mk 4 yorks, which will gradually deploy across the business over the next few years, represent a substantial investment in new containers.
With improved manual handling and easy tip technology, the Mk 4 yorks are initially being utilised at Chelmsford, Greenford, Home Counties North and Swindon mail centres. They will greatly increase the speed at which parcels can be processed by sorting machines.
Simon Barker, director of process and engineering, says colleagues’ feedback has been extremely positive. ‘They’re easy to use,’ said Simon. ‘They are designed to work in conjunction with the new machinery and will ensure a clean tip every time.’
Postman Chris Chisholm from Greenford mail centre, said: ‘They come in ready to use so we don’t have to make them up like red ALP sleeves. It’s going to save a lot of time and a lot of effort.’
Existing yorks, which are ideal for carrying trays, will remain in use. But for small parcels, the current red ALP sleeves will gradually be replaced by Mk4 yorks over the next few years.
